Asphalt Distributor Operator
About the role
Hinkle Contracting, LLC, a CRH company, seeks a highly skilled individual to control and operate distributor machines. This position reports directly to the Paving Foreman.
Responsibilities
- Safely and efficiently operate distributor and heavy equipment of various sizes used in road, site or highway construction and paving.
- Report any problems to your manager.
- Ensure a safe work environment for yourself and co-workers.
- Maintain constant eye contact when backing and communicate using hand signals or other movements.
- Follow company policies and OSHA/MSHA regulations for safe working procedures and environment.
- Adhere to directions given by the Foreman regarding daily tasks and expectations for each specific project or job site.
- Perform minor servicing and maintenance of equipment, or refer major problems to the Foreman.
- Conduct daily pre-and-post inspections with appropriate documentation in compliance with company policies.
- Aid in training less-experienced employees on the proper operations, servicing, and repair of equipment.
- Perform general labor duties as needed.
- Show thorough understanding of all aspects of the paving industry, including preparatory work, grades, drainage, paving patterns, aggregate size, job specifications, oil consistencies, compaction, and other details related to asphalt paving.
- Ensure the efficient working condition of the equipment and perform minor servicing and maintenance or refer major problems to the supervisor.
- Operate equipment safely and efficiently.
- Communicate effectively and maintain excellent interpersonal skills.
- Report to work at the designated start time.
- Be willing to travel and work away from home when required.
- Work nights and weekends when necessary.
- Be willing to work overtime when required.
- Maintain a current driver’s license that meets state requirements.
- Have a Motor Vehicle Record that meets company standards.
- Work outdoors in extreme temperatures, both hot and cold.
- Strictly adhere to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
- Work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
- Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and / or MSHA.
- Be at least age 18 years of age due to the nature of the working environment.
- Previous related experience in construction field is preferred.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
- Two years related asphalt and road construction experience required.
- Must have a CDL Class B license and obtain Hazmat/tanker endorsement within 60 days of hire.
- Prior experience with asphalt paving equipment is preferred.
- Pass pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.
- Pass a pre-employment “Fit for Work” physical.
- Be able to provide valid documentation for the I-9 Immigration document.
- Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and the general public at all times.
- Be willing to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
