About the role

The Breaking/Trending Reporter in the Arts & Entertainment department leads coverage of arts, entertainment, and pop culture news that Dallas-Fort Worth readers are most eager to read. This fast-paced, quick-turn role focuses on breaking news, trending topics, and expanding online conversations. Ideal candidates will use social media to generate pitches and report stories, bringing expertise in TV, pop music, movies, and more.

Responsibilities

  • Write quickly and accurately on a variety of arts and entertainment topics, with a local focus
  • Use social media as a tool to develop story ideas and respond to audience conversations
  • Build stories with links, tags, SEO best practices, attractive web headlines, and multimedia when appropriate
  • Work with editors to develop new models for digital coverage that resonates with audiences
  • Assist with special digital projects, including video and audio, as needed

Requirements

  • At least three years of daily reporting experience
  • Valid driver’s license and registered vehicle to travel to assignments
  • Right to work in the U.S. without immigration sponsorship

Skills

  • Strong news judgment, accuracy, speed, and grammatical precision
  • Flair for headlines and digital storytelling
  • Energy, curiosity, and ability to deliver impactful local cultural coverage
  • Demonstrated interest in music, movies, books, visual art, theater, or related fields
  • Proficiency in digital content management tools and social media for newsgathering
  • Ability to work remotely via smartphone or laptop
  • Understanding of platform-specific storytelling (voice, style, formatting, hyperlinks)
  • Deep knowledge of SEO techniques and digital best practices
  • Familiarity with newsroom tools for planning, authoring, and communication
  • Collaboration skills across teams and ability to operate in a fast-paced environment
  • Knowledge of digital news analytics
