About the role
The Arts, Culture & Events Reporter will cover Cincinnati's vibrant arts and cultural scene, reporting on events, venues, personalities, and more. This position requires strong writing, interviewing, and storytelling skills, along with a deep understanding of the city's creative community.
Responsibilities
- Report and write roughly five bylines per week, including multiple interviews and sources
- Write two short news briefs a day, covering announcements, openings and closings, artist and venue news, event developments, and other timely items
- Own the beat by developing and maintaining sources across the arts, entertainment, and cultural communities
- Break news about Cincinnati's arts and cultural community, including venue openings and closures, leadership changes, cancellations, major announcements, controversies, and everything else that moves
- Develop and maintain the weekly Things to Do in Cincinnati guide
- Create and maintain a listicle of things to see, do, or experience around the region
- Attend concerts, performances, gallery openings, festivals, and press events throughout the region when necessary
Requirements
- Experience reporting on arts, culture, entertainment, lifestyle, or community topics
- Strong writing, interviewing, and storytelling skills, particularly the ability to capture scene, voice, and atmosphere
- Familiarity with Cincinnati's creative community, or a deep curiosity to dive in fast
- The ability to balance quick-turn daily work with longer-form enterprise reporting
- Comfort working across platforms—digital, social, and print
- Strong collaboration, communication, and deadline management skills
- Flexibility for event-based coverage outside regular business hours
- Sound news judgment and the ability to produce fast, thorough, accurate reporting with minimal supervision
- Reliable transportation
Qualifications
- College degree preferred, but not required
- Experience in a similar role, either professional, freelance, or collegiate
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Passion for local journalism and a desire to contribute to the community
Skills
- Excellent writing and storytelling skills
- Strong research and investigative skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Proficiency in digital and social media platforms
- Knowledge of Cincinnati's cultural landscape
