Dining & Entertainment Reporter
About the role
The Greenville News, part of the USA TODAY NETWORK, seeks a dynamic and curious food, dining & entertainment reporter to cover the vibrant and rapidly evolving culinary and cultural scene in Greenville and across Upstate South Carolina.
Responsibilities
- Report and write engaging, accurate, and timely stories on restaurants, chefs, bars, breweries, and food trends across the Upstate.
- Cover entertainment beats including live music, festivals, theater, and local cultural events.
- Develop original feature ideas, profiles, and investigative pieces that reflect the diversity and growth of the region.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with local restaurateurs, chefs, artists, and community leaders.
- Produce multimedia content, including social media posts, short-form video, and photo-driven stories.
- Contribute to dining guides, event roundups, and “best of” lists.
- Stay ahead of emerging trends in food, hospitality, and entertainment.
- Use metrics and analytics to grow audience, engagement and digital subscriptions.
- Work extended hours when necessary, including evenings, weekends and holidays as news happens.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 2+ years of reporting experience, preferably covering food, dining, or entertainment.
- Strong writing, reporting, and interviewing skills with a distinctive voice.
- Knowledge of or strong interest in Greenville and Upstate South Carolina’s food and cultural scene.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed for events coverage.
- Experience with digital publishing tools, social media platforms, and basic multimedia production.
- Mastery of SEO and social media and using it to promote your work and interact with readers.
- Self-motivation and self-direction.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with colleagues, sources and the community.
- Command of media law and principles of ethical conduct.
Skills
This role requires a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and the minimum liability insurance required by state law.
