Arts & Enrichment Ceramics/Pottery Instructor I - II

About the role

This position teaches art and enrichment classes for all ages in both group and individual settings. Also teaches specialized arts, enrichment classes, birthday parties and special events offsite. This position will primarily teach ceramics classes and possibly other classes based on individual expertise.

Responsibilities

• Plan and instruct art and enrichment classes for participants with varying levels of skill and ability.
• Maintain course records and rosters.
• Communicate with co-workers, patrons and coordinators effectively and efficiently.
• Show examples of selected art and provide students with tools and raw materials to produce their own art.
• Teach students how to use tools and raw materials properly.
• Promote arts and enrichment programming.
• Maintain appropriate equipment/supplies for classes and events; set up and take down.
• Perform required cleaning.
• Inspect and report tool/equipment condition on a regular basis to ensure safe use.

Requirements

• Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age with a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Must have at least one (1) year of teaching experience in art.
• Experience teaching art and/or enrichment is preferred.
• Current certifications in AED/CPR and First Aid preferred.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License or the ability to obtain one within thirty (30) days of employment.
• Must be insurable by the District carrier at the onset and for the duration of employment.

• Knowledge of teaching and learning techniques and methodologies.
• Knowledgeable of positive interaction techniques with children, students and their parents, adult and senior students, and staff.
• Able to work with students in a constructive and caring manner while creating unique and fun art projects and teaching safety in the classroom.
• Able to communicate verbally with both children and adults.
• Able to be flexible and able to handle multiple tasks and conflicting priorities.
• Able to have excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Skills

• Ability to demonstrate and perform the techniques unique to varying art disciplines.
• Upper body strength to lift/move a maximum of 25 pounds unassisted, and lift/move a maximum of 75 pounds with assistance.
• Visual acuity to see details, near, far, depth and color.
• Manual dexterity and the ability to handle objects.
• The ability to talk and hear via the telephone, email, and through face-to-face communication.

Pay

$17.05 - $22.75 per hour

Schedule

Primarily evenings and weekends, but some classes may be offered during the day.
