About the role
The Artist-in-Residence will support the growth in arts inclusion programming at Union Middle School in Canyons School District, Sandy, Utah. The position involves working directly at Union Middle School for 20 hours per week from mid-August to mid-October (10 weeks), collaborating with the visual art teacher, and participating remotely in the Sped/Art PLC twice a month (2 hours/month) through the 2026-2027 school year. This is a hybrid work position within the state of Utah.
Responsibilities
- Support the implementation of collaborative planned lessons in the arts classroom, focusing on social learning opportunities.
- Work directly with the visual art teacher and peer partners to support the development of independent visual art skills in the classroom environment.
- Participate in a professional learning community (PLC) consisting of the visual arts teacher and special education unit teacher, sharing expertise and supporting inclusive practices.
- Offer support and foster a Sped/Art partnership to sustain school-specific resources and promote ongoing dialog and reflection on art inclusion practices.
Qualifications
- K-12 teaching experience
- Special education in the arts experience
- Interest in working with students with disabilities
