About the Role

Volunteers are needed to lead Arts and Crafts projects and encourage self-expression and empowerment among residents. This group focuses on helping residents create and express their ideas or emotions through art making. All skill levels are welcome; the key is providing a friendly and encouraging environment for creativity. Volunteers will plan projects and bring supplies.

About the Organization

The Boulevard of Chicago serves medically and socially vulnerable people experiencing homelessness by providing:

• Medical Respite (Recuperative) Care: Short-term residential care for homeless adults who are too ill or injured to recover on the streets or in shelters but do not require hospitalization. Services include a safe place to stay, meals, nursing care, medication assistance, and transportation to medical appointments.
• Integrated Physical & Behavioral Health Services: An on-site clinic (in partnership with health providers) delivering primary care, mental health counseling, and substance-use support to address both medical and behavioral health needs.
• Housing Navigation and Advocacy: Assistance in securing stable housing through coordination of assessments, benefits enrollment, and housing placement, with continued support after residents leave the program to reduce returns to homelessness.

The Boulevard embraces a compassionate, client-centered, and holistic philosophy of care. Through strong partnerships, it promotes healing and stability to break the cycle of homelessness. The organization serves over 500 homeless adults annually, helping them recover from physical injury, illness, addiction, or mental health issues. After recovery, residents receive assistance in finding safe housing and building a stable life, with the goal of ending their homeless experience permanently.
