About the role

Maintain the original aesthetics and function of the animated figures, props, and sets within the Rides and Shows. Responsibilities include cleaning, repairing, installing, and finishing/painting skins, shells, costumes, props, and set pieces, as well as providing access into these assets for Ride and Show Mechanics.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and install flexible and non-flexible skins, coverings (including costumes, wigs, fur, and feathers), and support structures for animated figures, including planning, cleaning, repairing, and painting of silicone and fiberglass skins and shells.
  • Mend or replace costumes and other figure coverings.
  • Apply painting processes such as airbrushing, faux paint techniques, automotive paint applications, wet/dry brush, and sponge painting.
  • Maintain sets within Rides and Shows, including planning, cleaning, sculpting, construction, painting, and documenting work.
  • Mend or replace backdrops, curtains, scrims, and other set-related soft materials.
  • Use brushing, rolling, blending, spraying, and faux finishing techniques for show sets.
  • Maintain, fabricate, and install show props, including planning, cleaning, molding, casting, construction, finishing/painting, and documenting work.
  • Assist Ride and Show Maintenance with access into figures, props, and sets for inspections and repairs, including mechanical disassembly and assembly.
  • Maintain, fabricate, and install/embed fasteners and attachments for animated figures, sets, and props, such as buckles, straps, zippers, snaps, stand-offs, tabs, and various inserts.
  • Inspect figures, sets, props, shop facilities, equipment, and tools for wear/damage and document findings.
  • Assist in show quality walk-throughs, assessing animated figures, show sets, and props for necessary repairs and improvements.
  • Understand and actively participate in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established policy, procedures, training, and team member involvement activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school degree or GED is required.
  • Associate’s degree in Visual Arts, Scenery Production, Technical Theater, Costuming, or equivalent is preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Visual Arts, Scenery Production, Technical Theater, Costuming, or equivalent is preferred.
  • 3+ years of set/prop fabrication and maintenance with finishing aspects of animated figures is required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid Florida Driver’s License required to operate company vehicles.
