About the role

Join an exciting project developing a metroidvania game where players craft their own spells and explore the vibrant island of Frennia. As a 2D Environment Artist, you will design and create visually engaging tiles and objects that bring diverse environments to life, from rocky cave floors to industrial cityscapes. Your work will help shape the atmosphere and storytelling of the game, contributing to a unique player experience. This is a fully remote opportunity, ideal for artists passionate about world-building in games.

Responsibilities

• Design and illustrate 2D environment tiles, including natural and industrial elements such as rock floors, city walls, fans, and geysers
• Collaborate with the game director to ensure assets align with the creative vision and narrative
• Prepare assets for seamless integration into the game engine, maintaining consistency in style and quality
• Iterate on feedback to refine and polish environment art as needed
• Meet project deadlines and communicate progress regularly

Requirements

• Proven experience creating 2D environment art for games, with a strong portfolio showcasing relevant work
• Proficiency in digital illustration tools such as Photoshop, Clip Studio Paint, or similar software
• Ability to design a variety of environmental elements, from organic to industrial
• Strong understanding of color, composition, and visual storytelling
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work independently in a remote setting
• Familiarity with metroidvania or platformer games is a plus
• Availability to commit to project timelines and deliver high-quality assets within budget constraints
