About the role

Responsibilities

• Create and deliver engaging, standards-based performing arts lessons for high school students
• Teach a variety of instruments including woodwinds, brass, percussion and keyboards
• Foster student creativity, problem-solving, and collaboration
• Support students in developing critical thinking/self-expression through performing arts
• Maintain a safe, organized, and inclusive classroom environment
• Perform and celebrate student ensembles throughout the school and in public spaces
• Regularly assess and document student learning and progress
• Incorporate technology and interdisciplinary connections where appropriate
• Participate in school-wide planning, professional development, and collaborative team meetings
• Maintain ongoing communication with students, families, and colleagues
• Model and promote high expectations for student behavior and academic achievement

Requirements

• Highly qualified performing arts educator with strong instrumental teaching skills
• Deep understanding of musicmaking processes, levels and techniques
• Knowledge of how diverse learners acquire and engage with performance-practice content
• Able to reflect on teaching practices and use data to improve instruction
• Willingness to accept and apply constructive feedback from supervisors and peers
• Strong collaboration and communication skills
• Able to differentiate instruction and support inclusion
• Commitment to equity, access, and culturally responsive teaching practices

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree required
• Master's Degree preferred
• Massachusetts DESE Certification in Music
• Experience working with high school students preferred
• Bilingual candidates strongly encouraged to apply
• Experience in urban education and a commitment to community engagement preferred
