Position Summary
The Visual Arts Teacher will organize and maintain a safe and inclusive classroom environment while ensuring instruction is aligned with the Massachusetts Visual Arts Curriculum Frameworks.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Create and deliver engaging, standards-based visual arts lessons for students
- Teach a variety of media including drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, and digital art
- Foster student creativity, problem-solving, and collaboration
- Support students in developing critical thinking and self-expression through the visual arts
- Maintain a safe, organized, and inclusive classroom environment
- Display and celebrate student artwork throughout the school and in public exhibitions
- Regularly assess and document student learning and progress
- Incorporate technology and interdisciplinary connections where appropriate
- Participate in school-wide planning, professional development, and collaborative team meetings
- Maintain ongoing communication with students, families, and colleagues
- Model and promote high expectations for student behavior and academic achievement
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Highly qualified visual arts educator with strong studio and teaching skills
- Deep understanding of artmaking processes, materials, and techniques
- Knowledge of how diverse learners acquire and engage with visual arts content
- Ability to reflect on teaching practices and use data to improve instruction
- Willingness to accept and apply constructive feedback from supervisors and peers
- Strong collaboration and communication skills
- Ability to differentiate instruction and support inclusion
- Commitment to equity, access, and culturally responsive teaching practices
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Art Education, Fine Arts, or related field
- Massachusetts DESE Certification in Visual Arts
- Experience working with middle school students preferred
- Bilingual candidates strongly encouraged to apply
- Experience in urban education and a commitment to community engagement preferred
