About the role

The Art & Handwork Instructor supports the work of the Central Lincoln County YMCA, a leading nonprofit dedicated to strengthening the community through programs that nurture the potential of kids, promote healthy living, and foster social responsibility.

Responsibilities

  • Teaches Art & Handwork classes for seniors and children after school on Wednesday and Friday afternoons; additional programming may be added.
  • Works closely with the Department Director to promote healthy living, social responsibility, and youth development.
  • Collaborates with the Program & Summer Camp Director to create and execute art programs and curriculum, ensuring safety, licensing standards, and high customer service.
  • Prepares, sets up, and delivers quality art programming in a structured, positive environment.
  • Supervises and engages participants during classes, manages group dynamics, and fosters positive social skills.
  • Prepares supplies in advance, ensures equipment is clean and sanitized, and maintains a safe, organized environment.
  • Builds relationships with staff, participants, and community partners, connecting them to the YMCA.
  • Promotes YMCA programs and recruits new participants.
  • Recruits, trains, and coordinates volunteers to ensure quality instruction and adherence to YMCA standards.
  • Assists with cleaning to maintain a welcoming environment for children and families.
  • Creates a safe, welcoming space where participants build confidence, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
  • As a Mandated Reporter, recognizes signs of abuse or neglect and reports them to the supervisor and authorities.
  • Provides administrative support, maintains accurate attendance records, and documents incidents and accidents.
  • Performs other tasks and projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • 3–5 years of experience in a related field.
  • CPR and First Aid certification required within 60 days of hire.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and resolve conflicts in a positive, friendly manner.
  • Self-starter with strong multitasking, independence, and adaptability in a fast-paced environment.
  • General computer skills and ability to learn new software.
  • High School degree or GED (or working toward completion).

Physical Requirements

  • Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, talk, hear, run, push, pull, bend, lift, and row.
  • Must use hands and fingers to operate computers, tablets, and program equipment.
  • Requires close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Must lift and/or move up to 60 pounds.

Work Environment

  • Work is performed at a community campus serving all people, with occasional stress and multitasking demands.
  • May require attendance outside regular business hours (early mornings, evenings, weekends).
  • Noise levels may vary.
