Responsibilities
- Provide exceptional customer service.
- Guard posts at the entry/exit points of the local base.
- Conduct foot and vehicle patrols of the interior and exterior of the grounds to ensure a safe and secure environment.
- Ensure unauthorized persons do not enter restricted areas.
- Check for employee, vendor, and visitor identifications.
- Look for suspicious persons, packages and activities.
- Follow site specific post guidelines.
- Document daily activities and report all incidents.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- At least 18 years old and have at least a high school diploma or equivalent education certification, such as a GED, per MCL 338.106717.
- At least 21 years old and be a Michigan Concealed Pistol License (CPL) or LEOSA cardholder to perform armed security work.
- No felony convictions, per MCL 338.106010(1)(c).
- No misdemeanor convictions related to dishonesty, fraud, impersonation of law enforcement, assault, weapons, unauthorized sale of information or evidence, controlled substances (including for marijuana), or two or more alcohol-related offenses, per MCL 338.106010(1)(c).
- Ability to pass a drug screening at the time of hire and randomly thereafter (including for marijuana).
- Adhere to the company’s Uniform and Appearance policy and present a friendly, positive, and professional image.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to de-escalate situations in a non-confrontational manner.
- Ability to fluently read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
- Valid State of Michigan driver’s license and a clean driving record with less than 3 moving violations in the last 3 years, less than 2 at-fault accidents in the last 3 years, and no other major violations in the last 3 years.
- Willingness to become CPR/First Aid/AED certified and capable of administering this care in emergency situations.
- Ability to pass a Physical Agility Test within 90 days of hire, and annually thereafter. The PAT includes activities such as sprinting, sit-ups, push-ups, and a 1.5-mile run (all activities are timed events).
- Physically and mentally sound and able to remain alert while on duty.
- Ability to sit, stand, and walk long distances, including navigating stairs, for the duration of the shift (8–12 hours).
- Ability to work indoors or outdoors during all seasons.
- Ability to use hands and fingers to manipulate keys, tools, and other equipment.
- Ability to hear conversations (in person or via 2-way radio) in noisy environments.
- Ability to lift up to 70 lbs.
- Ability to work independently with little or no supervision.
