Armed Security Officer - Part Time

Responsibilities

• Conduct routine checks of offices, laboratories, corridors, parking lots, storage sites, and other locations as assigned.
• Authorize deviations from established schedules for unusual conditions, documenting reasoning on guard’s tour reports.
• Perform designated guard functions, including monitoring and responding to building fire alarms, electronic security systems, closed-circuit television, and emergency evacuation plans.
• Notify the Visitor Control Center, police, and fire departments during emergencies or unusual occurrences affecting Government interests.
• Secure facilities by turning off unnecessary lights, closing windows, and checking safes, vaults, cabinets, and security doors; report discrepancies.
• Investigate machinery/equipment malfunctions, alarms, unusual noises, or odors; report potential fire hazards.
• Comply with procedures for lost and found articles, recording and attempting to return property; turn in unclaimed items after 24 hours.
• Participate in quarterly emergency exercises, documenting responsiveness and conducting after-action reviews.
• Issue permanent/temporary identification badges to authorized employees, contractors, service personnel, and visitors.
• Operate visitor center functions, including badge issuance, visitor records, x-ray machines, and metal detectors.
• Assist with traffic control on properties to manage flow.
• Conduct rover foot patrols (interior/exterior) and motorized patrols, responding to alarms, service calls, and documenting incidents.
• Provide emergency first aid, escorts, and assist with evacuations; man vehicle checkpoints and conduct inspections.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or G.E.D.
• Minimum 1 year of experience.
• Must be at least 21 years old.
• U.S. citizenship required.
• No revoked/denied private investigator or security guard license in any state.
• No court declaration of incompetence due to mental defect or illness.
• No history of narcotics addiction, habitual drunkenness, or felony convictions.
• No convictions under the “Lautenberg Amendment” (18 U.S.C.922(g)(9)).
• No convictions for crimes involving illegal weapons, burglary tools, stolen property, unlawful entry, aiding escape, drug distribution, or moral turpitude.
• No history of unlicensed security/private investigation business, subcontracting with unlicensed entities, or employing unlicensed individuals.
• No false representation as a law enforcement official or licensed investigator/guard.
• No false reporting, unauthorized disclosure of client information, or acceptance of employment for illegal purposes.
• Must hold a Position of Trust and a valid Security Guard License for the applying state.
• Must pass a CDC-administered background check, including:
  • 10-year employment and education verification.
  • 10-year residence history.
  • Military service records (if applicable).
  • Criminal conviction record (no felonies or moral turpitude).
  • Drug testing/screening (pre-hire and random quarterly testing).
  • Credit report for financial responsibility.
  • Valid state driver’s license with low-risk driving history.
• Literacy in English (speaking, reading, writing) to understand regulations, orders, and compose reports.
• Basic knowledge of computerized access control and video monitoring systems.
• Proficiency with computer applications (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Must pass government-required training, including:
  • Bi-annual firearms qualifications.
  • Expandable baton certification (every 3 years).
  • First Aid/CPR/AED certification (every 2 years).
• Must meet annual medical surveillance program requirements (fitness for duty).
• Must pass the Physical Efficiency Battery (PEB) fitness test, including:
  • Sit and Reach (flexibility test).
  • Bench Press (upper body strength, percentage of body weight).
  • 1.5 Mile Run (cardio-respiratory fitness).

  Minimum 25th percentile scores required (see table below). Re-qualification required annually; failure to meet standards within 30 days results in Weapons Restriction.

Pay

$24.53 per hour.
