About the role
This position is located in Battle Creek, MI. Armed Security Officers are responsible for protecting the site’s building, grounds, assets, employees, and visitors against criminal activity. Officers at this location will work on a team to control access at the entry/exit points of a local headquarters and serve as a point of contact for all visitors and patrons.
Responsibilities
- Provide exceptional customer service.
- Guard posts at the entry/exit points of the local base.
- Conduct foot and vehicle patrols of the interior and exterior of the grounds to ensure a safe and secure environment.
- Ensure unauthorized persons do not enter restricted areas.
- Check for employee, vendor, and visitor identifications.
- Look for suspicious persons, packages, and activities.
- Follow site-specific post guidelines.
- Document daily activities and report all incidents.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years old and have at least a high school diploma or equivalent (GED), per MCL 338.1067.
- Must be at least 21 years old and hold a valid Michigan Concealed Pistol License (CPL) or LEOSA credential to perform armed security work.
- Must not have been convicted of any felonies, per MCL 338.106010(1)(c).
- Must not have been convicted of misdemeanors related to dishonesty, fraud, impersonation of law enforcement, assault, weapons, unauthorized sale of information or evidence, controlled substances (including marijuana), or two or more alcohol-related offenses, per MCL 338.106010(1)(c).
- Must pass a drug screening at the time of hire and randomly thereafter (including for marijuana).
- Must adhere to the company’s Uniform and Appearance policy and present a friendly, positive, and professional image.
- Must possess excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to de-escalate situations in a non-confrontational manner. This includes fluency in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English.
- If driving company or client vehicles, or using your own vehicle for work, must possess a valid Michigan driver’s license and have a clean driving record (less than 3 moving violations, less than 2 at-fault accidents, and no major violations in the last 3 years).
- Must be willing to become CPR/First Aid/AED certified and capable of administering care in emergencies.
- Must pass a Physical Agility Test (PAT) within 90 days of hire and annually thereafter. The PAT includes timed activities such as sprinting, sit-ups, push-ups, and a 1.5-mile run.
- Must be physically and mentally sound and able to remain alert during shifts (armed officers must complete a psychological evaluation upon hire).
- Must be able to sit, stand, and walk long distances, including navigating stairs, for the duration of the shift (8–12 hours).
- Must be able to work indoors or outdoors during all seasons.
- Must be able to use hands and fingers to manipulate keys, tools, and other equipment.
- Must be able to hear conversations (in person or via 2-way radio) in noisy environments.
- Must be able to lift up to 70 lbs.
- Must be able to work independently with little or no supervision.
