Armed Security Guard - Part Time

About the Role

The Armed Security Officer protects personnel and property within the DRH Health system and seeks to prevent criminal and destructive activity while correcting hazards and unsafe conditions. This role requires the ability to interact appropriately with all team members, patients, and visitors under difficult circumstances, including assisting with combative patients or visitors.

Responsibilities

• Respond promptly to service requests, emergency codes, and urgent situations, including internal/external disaster events and other security-related tasks.
• Serve as a visible deterrent to criminal activity, providing security for patients, team members, and visitors while protecting and patrolling hospital buildings, assets, and premises.
• Conduct frequent security patrols of facilities and grounds to ensure all property and facilities are secure; detect and address unauthorized or illegal entry.
• Inspect facility property for hazards or unsafe conditions and report issues to Facilities; identify and report security-related trends to the Manager.
• Demonstrate competence with handgun, taser, body cam, radio, handcuffs, duty phone, and other law enforcement tools.
• Conduct preliminary investigations of reported incidents, gather initial information for incident reports, and submit reports in a timely manner using proper grammar and factual documentation.
• Monitor live security cameras and demonstrate proficiency with network security systems.
• Control pedestrian and vehicular traffic; provide public services such as motorist assistance, patient escorts, and enforcement of parking rules.
• Respond to the collection, inventory, and return of lost and found items, patient valuables, medication, and personal property according to policy.
• Assist team members at the helipad during emergencies, patient transfers, application of medical restraints, and with disruptive patients or guests.
• Remain alert at all times and make immediate decisions regarding laws, policies, and procedures.
• Distribute confidential and sensitive information or documentation with discretion.
• Deliver various medical equipment throughout the hospital system as needed.
• Complete special projects and assignments designated by the Security Manager.
• Maintain regular attendance and punctuality for scheduled shifts.
• Adapt assessment and response methods to accommodate physical, cultural, age-specific, and developmental needs of individuals served.
• Maintain professional and technical knowledge through continuing education, including internal and external training opportunities.
• Complete basic incident command training and coursework.
• Utilize assistive devices for lifting as mandated.
• Adhere to all safety protocols and DRH Standards of Behavior, exhibiting behaviors consistent with DRH core values.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Must meet state requirements for owning/carrying a firearm.
• Must be 21 years of age or older.
• Must successfully pass a drug screen and criminal background check.
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with all levels of personnel and the public.
• Ability to handle urgent and crisis situations calmly, effectively, and efficiently.
• Strong customer service, investigative, and conflict resolution skills.
• Ability to think quickly and adapt in a wide range of situations.
• Proficiency with safe gun handling and ability to pass handgun qualification tests.
• Ability to follow applicable regulations, policies, and procedures.
• Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required.
• Ability to adapt procedures, processes, tools, equipment, and techniques to meet job requirements.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• At least 3 years of previous law enforcement, honorable military service, or armed security experience preferred.
• Previous healthcare security experience preferred.
• Proficient with telephone, email, radio, cell phone, computer, and software (e.g., Word, Excel) to generate electronic reports, incident documentation, and correspondence.

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations

• Must be a CLEET Certified Armed Security Officer or complete requirements and apply for certification within 180 days of hire/transfer.
• Must successfully complete CPI, MMPI, and taser training within 180 days of hire or transfer.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; may obtain within 30 days of hire/transfer.
• Must maintain a current valid Oklahoma driver’s license and automobile liability insurance.

Additional Information

This is a safety-sensitive position as defined by Oklahoma law. Applicants cannot test positive for Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) in pre-employment or any subsequent drug tests, even with a valid medical marijuana card.

Respirator and fit testing are required for team members at risk of exposure to airborne infectious diseases, droplet-producing procedures, or caustic chemicals.

Vaccinations are required per DRH policy, with medical and religious exemptions available upon request.
