About the role

Smurfit Westrock is the go-to leader and partner of choice in sustainable packaging, dedicated to creating efficient and scalable paper and packaging solutions to help solve complex packaging challenges. We are seeking an Area Wood Fiber Procurement Manager at our Evadale, TX, office to lead all Stumpage team activities to develop and execute the virgin fiber sourcing strategies aggressively and proactively.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, promote, and enhance the safety culture
  • Assist the Region Manager in executing the annual strategic purchase plan to provide the highest value fiber to the digester across the annual cycle
  • Develop and execute sound, aggressive strategies built on mill requirements, solid analysis, and market data
  • Effectively evaluate delivered fiber opportunities and successfully negotiate pricing based on true market demands
  • Communicate effectively related to fiber supply operations, strategies, and status of execution with all stakeholders
  • Hold team and suppliers to high standards for operational execution, including accuracy, timeliness, safety, productivity, and quality
  • Proactively develop and manage both capital and expense plans that support and enhance the fiber supply system
  • Assist the Region Manager in the development and reporting of timely and accurate financial information
  • Identify and support opportunities to increase productivity and efficiency across the region
  • Develop talent to continually provide opportunities for “high potential” individuals to increase leadership "bench strength" for the organization

Requirements

  • 5+ years related work experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in forestry or related field
  • Advanced computer skills, including Excel, PowerPoint, MS Word, Outlook, and other software
  • Demonstrated capability to develop tactical plans with aggressive strategy built on mill requirements, solid analysis, and robust market data
  • Ability to build and track financial forecasts and budgets
  • Maintain solid market awareness and utilize it to support both strategic development and tactical decisions
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all stakeholders, including peers, direct reports, and upper management
  • Ability to develop talent to increase leadership "bench strength" for the organization

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in forestry or a related field, with a proven track record of developing and executing strategic plans, leading teams, and driving results.

Skills

The successful candidate will possess advanced computer skills, including Excel, PowerPoint, MS Word, Outlook, and other software, as well as excellent communication and leadership skills.
