Wood & Fiber Supply - Area Manager
Georgia-Pacific is seeking an Area Manager to manage wood and fiber supply support for our Big Island, VA paper mill and Mt. Jewett, PA MDF facility. In this highly visible role, you will ensure both facilities have the right fiber supply at the right cost and quality to meet mill needs and create long-term value. This position involves solving complex supply challenges, building strong supplier and customer relationships, and using data to make sound business decisions.
This is an on-site position based at our Big Island, VA paper mill, supporting operations at both Big Island and Mt. Jewett. Expected travel is approximately 25–35%, including some overnight travel.
About the Role
Our Wood & Fiber Supply team plays a critical role in keeping our mills supplied with reliable, sustainable wood resources. Operating across fifteen states, we partner with landowners and suppliers, using Principle Based Management® to make decisions that create value for customers, communities, and the company.
Responsibilities
- Lead with a strong commitment to environmental, health, and safety excellence.
- Develop and improve wood and fiber purchase and sales strategies that support mill reliability, cost competitiveness, and long-term supply needs.
- Build mutually beneficial relationships with suppliers, customers, mill partners, and Wood & Fiber Supply team members.
- Use data, technology, and collaboration to identify opportunities, eliminate waste, and support continuous improvement.
- Ensure transactions, contracts, and business processes are accurate, compliant, and aligned with financial controls and stewardship expectations.
- Partner across teams to manage raw material supply, contract administration, fiber costs, and inventory strategies.
- Manage wood and fiber purchase and sales costs, along with related overhead and administrative costs.
- Develop inventory plans that support current mill needs while preparing for future supply requirements.
- Apply Principle Based Management® by acting with integrity, demonstrating good stewardship, challenging the status quo, and creating value through principled decision-making.
- Communicate clearly with mill partners on supply plans, wood cost expectations, volume forecasts, and changing business needs.
- Provide direction and support to the Big Island chip quality direct report while collaborating across teams to execute supply, quality, and inventory plans.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Forestry, Procurement, Supply Chain, or a related field.
- Five (5) or more years of experience in Forestry, Procurement, Supply Chain, or related fields.
- Experience with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Qualifications (Preferred)
- MBA, master’s degree, or higher in Forestry, Procurement, Supply Chain, or a related field.
- Eight (8) or more years of experience in Forestry, Procurement, Supply Chain, or related fields.
- Experience providing direction, support, or supervision to others.
Pay
We anticipate paying $90,000 - $150,000 per year for this role. This position is eligible for variable pay, issued as a monetary bonus or in another form. Compensation may vary based on knowledge, skills, abilities, and geographic location.
