Area Vice President - Big Sky Super District
About the Role
The Area Vice President will serve as a strategic business leader for the Big Sky Super District, which includes branches in Idaho and Montana. This position focuses on four primary areas of emphasis: Sales Growth, Gross Margin enhancement, Market Share Growth, and Employee Development. The scope includes multiple customer segments: Industrial, Commercial Construction, and Residential Construction. You will carry direct responsibility for profitable growth by organizing and directing Company resources within the assigned geography and leveraging expertise from outside the geography to execute a comprehensive go-to-market strategy.
While tied to a specific geography, this role carries responsibilities that span the entire Corporation. You will be recognized nationally as a key leadership position and participate in regularly scheduled meetings with Senior Management, functional leaders, and other Area Vice Presidents. As the Area Vice President, you will influence and help cascade strategies, directives, and objectives associated with business transformation and operational excellence. You will leverage best practices from other geographies and share best practices from your territory across the Corporation.
Responsibilities
- Lead the development and execution of action-oriented area strategies that result in profitable growth, addressing market requirements, key customers, competitive threats, and new technologies.
- Build organizational capability across area sales teams while partnering with key enterprise resources to deliver organic growth.
- Ensure sales teams have and fully utilize appropriate internal and external sales tools for current and future customers.
- Analyze team and function effectiveness, recommending changes in sales force structure, assignments, and selling activities to maximize profitable volume and achieve a best cost-to-sales ratio.
- Develop and lead strategic sales plans that deliver growth of value-added services and solutions for customers.
- Establish area best practices focused on new market penetration that differentiate Crescent in the industry based on market trends and customer needs.
- Analyze and evaluate current and future needs to determine and recommend annual sales expense budgets.
- Work collaboratively across all sales organizations within Crescent to facilitate mutual growth across product, service/solutions offerings, strategic initiatives, and national accounts.
- Support the development and execution of an operational excellence plan that standardizes and centralizes key common functions across Crescent.
- Lead employees to understand and embrace the benefits of operational excellence and how it contributes to long-term success.
- Produce and increase sales through digital tools, sales promotion, and industry-specific involvement.
- Plan and administer methods of controlling expenses within budget.
- Manage team performance through S.M.A.R.T. goal setting and frequent performance feedback, focusing on both "what" and "how" team members perform.
- Lead the team to develop and execute individual development plans for all employees, emphasizing engagement, retention, and development.
- Lead local and enterprise efforts to build talent bench strength and develop capable successors for all key positions within the assigned geography.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial) or Business Administration with a marketing emphasis; commensurate experience accepted. A Master’s degree is preferred.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in Sales/Marketing.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in field sales management, managing direct sales teams.
- Experience in various sales and marketing roles with increasing responsibilities.
- Experience managing Product line marketing and/or operational experience is a plus.
- Valid Driver's License required.
- Proven track record of leading individuals and teams, including demonstrated success in setting clear expectations and goals.
- Demonstrated ability to drive transformational change and influence employees to embrace change through clear communications and inspiring vision.
- Ability to have difficult conversations on performance, accountability, and interpersonal behaviors with effectiveness, respect, and support.
- Ability to cascade Company strategies, objectives, priorities, and directives accurately and clearly.
- Outstanding communication (oral and written) and presentation skills.
- Contemporary understanding of electrical industrial/construction/residential markets and methods to maximize sales.
- Thorough knowledge of electrical products, solutions, services, and their application within local codes.
- Ability to influence direct reports, indirect reports, customers, and external business partners.
- Proven ability to work across multiple functions and geographies to build best practices and drive best-in-class results.
