About the role

As an Area Supervisor at Ross, you will be a key member of the Store Leadership team responsible for a specific area of the store and general operations when functioning as the Manager on Duty. You will ensure a safe, friendly, and well-maintained shopping environment while supervising associates and executing company operational processes.

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining Safe & Secure Environments:
    • Prioritize safety and maintain a secure shopping environment for customers and associates.
    • Correct or report unsafe conditions to Store Leadership.
    • Oversee building security, including entrance/exit control, EAS device checks, Cash Office security, and register area monitoring.
    • Ensure clear egress to emergency exits and remove clutter.
    • Respond to after-hours alarms and test fire alarm systems as scheduled.
  • Customer Service:
    • Demonstrate courtesy, friendliness, and professionalism with customers, associates, and leaders.
    • Recognize associates using Company recognition programs.
  • Personal and Store Brand:
    • Maintain a professional appearance in accordance with the Company Dress Code.
    • Ensure all associates adhere to the dress code.
    • Keep all store areas clean, well-maintained, and merchandised to standard.
    • Responsible for daily trash removal.
  • General Merchandising:
    • Ensure recovery, sizing, and markdowns are completed to Company standards.
    • Process merchandise with a sense of urgency and manage inbound non-merchandise deliveries (e.g., signs, supplies).
    • Maintain cleanliness and organization of all stockrooms.
    • Place merchandise on the sales floor and secure back-stock per Company policy.
    • Reduce loss due to damage and ensure compliance with monthly presentation guidelines.
    • Handle floor moves, signing, promotional signing, and re-wraps as needed.
  • Loss Prevention:
    • Comply with the Loss Prevention Awareness Program and maintain a strong customer service presence on the sales floor.
    • Demonstrate integrity and honesty in all interactions.
    • Safeguard confidential information, cash, credit card details, and merchandise.
    • Maintain the Public View Monitor (PVM) system and conduct "code" package inspections.
    • Execute Company Best Practices to maximize productivity.
  • Front End Supervision and Operations:
    • Execute Company Best Practices to minimize steps and maximize productivity at the Front End.
    • Train and coach associates on cash registers, shortage control, and Front End procedures.
    • Manage the line to reduce customer wait times and maintain energy and presence at the Front End.
    • Control break schedules for Retail Associates.
    • Ensure all equipment is functional and maintain proper supplies and recovery for the Front End.
    • Expedite go-backs, ensuring they are scanned, security tagged, and ticketed.
    • Teach associates the "Scan and Bag" best practice.
    • Maintain salability of merchandise on the Front End, aisle tables, and specialty racks.
  • Fitting Rooms:
    • Maintain cleanliness and organization of fitting rooms.
    • Audit and account for all fitting room garment tags per Company policy.
    • Ensure go-back compliance throughout the day, with all merchandise properly ticketed and security tagged.
  • Administrative Duties:
    • Conduct cash pulls and bank deposits per Company policy.
    • Oversee Front End control, including refund approvals, associate purchases, securing tills, and void approvals.
    • Administer payroll tasks such as punch edits, scheduling compliance, Sunday payroll transmission, and reporting.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the Store Manager.

Qualifications

  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Prior customer service and supervisory experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with point-of-sale equipment and applications.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations commonly used in retail environments.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to use all store equipment, including PDTs, registers, and PCs.
  • Ability to spend up to 100% of working time standing, walking, and moving around the store.
  • Ability to regularly bend, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, and stoop.
  • Ability to occasionally push, pull, and lift more than 25 lbs.
  • Ability to use janitorial equipment, rolling racks, ladders, and other assigned supplies.
  • For Stockroom shifts: ability to regularly push, pull, and lift more than 20 lbs.

Pay

The base pay range for this role is $18.40 - $18.90 per hour, dependent on factors including experience, skills, qualifications, relevant education, certifications, seniority, and location.
