Area Superintendent - Hydronics
About the role
This position oversees the operations, strategic planning, and personnel management of General Forepersons, Truck Forepersons, and Forepersons within the hydronic trades of the assigned area. Reporting to the Department Manager, responsibilities include leading hydronic field activities, managing resources, ensuring project execution, and fostering a collaborative environment.
Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee all hydronic field activities to ensure standards and productivity are met.
- Afford direct reports with resource management assistance.
- Select and assign Forepersons based on project needs.
- Develop and implement project execution strategies and schedules.
- Prepare weekly project progress, health, and safety reports.
- Resolve issues, challenges, and obstacles related to project execution.
- Implement Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) protocols and Safety Department’s protocols.
- Adhere to and promote company policies, including those related to labor relations and union compliance.
- Coordinate with labor relations representatives to resolve disputes and foster positive relationships.
- Monitor and evaluate personnel performance to ensure high-quality output and adherence to industry standards.
- Engage in continuous improvement efforts to enhance efficiency and meet project goals.
- Manage labor budgets and coordinate labor requests with local union labor halls.
- Assist in the development of best practices and processes across field operations.
- Support the strategic plan and corporate vision by adopting and implementing standard processes and procedures.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate risks associated with construction operations.
- Communicate effectively with Project Managers and Project Engineers to ensure successful project execution.
- Attend and participate in project kick-offs, mid-jobs, and wrap-ups.
- Review project documents to determine staffing requirements and assign field supervision and labor.
- Conduct job walks with Project Managers and provide feedback on project progress.
- Participate in pre-bid and post-bid interviews and review bid estimates.
- Provide mentorship to General Forepersons and Forepersons to develop strong leadership skills.
- Collaborate with Regional Superintendents to share experience and develop best processes.
- Engage in cross-functional initiatives and projects to support company growth objectives.
- Support the Director in departmental budgets, financial planning, and fleet management as needed.
Requirements
- Strong industry knowledge and experience in hydronic trades (pipe fitting, process piping, plumbing, site-utilities, start-up).
- 12+ years of experience in construction leading projects.
- Member of the local hydronics union in good standing.
- Proficiency in MS Office, Google Workspace, Adobe, ProCore, Bluebeam, Box, and remote training software.
- Effective communication skills at all levels of the business.
- Knowledge of current building and mechanical codes.
- Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
- Skilled in reading and interpreting plans and specifications.
- Knowledge of local quality, occupational safety, and health regulations for construction job sites.
- Preferred certifications or degrees in construction management, engineering, or architecture.
- Experience with remote training software and technologies used within best-in-class organizations.
- Software experience: CRM/PM Platforms (Bidtracer), Collaboration tools (Smartsheet, Slack, Revitzio, PlanGrid), Design/Detailing (Autodesk AEC Collection, Spooling: MSuite Bimpro, Fabrication: MSuite FabPro, Trimble), and Trimble Flamingo.

Pay
This position is for signatory employees and wages will be in alignment with the current Collective Bargaining Agreements.
Schedule
The employee may regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision and distance vision. Auditory/hearing abilities required include the ability to hear customers calling by telephone. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for prolonged periods, stand, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear. The employee is regularly required to walk and sit. This individual must be a responsible person and regular attendance is required. Travel 75-90% of the time to and from the primary office to job sites and regional branch offices.
