About the role
Trane is seeking an Area Service Manager to join our organization. This leadership role is responsible for overseeing service operations within the rapidly expanding Data Center market, with accountability for start-up support, warranty execution, repair services, and preventive maintenance activities. The Area Service Manager will work in close partnership with the existing Data Center team to support customers throughout the full lifecycle of data center projects, from initial construction and commissioning through ongoing operations and maintenance, with a specific focus on HVAC systems and services.
Candidates can be located in any of the following locations with a willingness to travel to the other sites as needed: Valley View, OH, Columbus, OH, Holland, OH or Pittsburgh, PA. A company vehicle will be provided.
Responsibilities
- P&L responsibility, including monthly revenue forecasting and driving service agreement base growth, repairs, installation, and service growth by partnering with the acquisition team (sales).
- Budget control responsibilities, including managing expenses relative to targets for overhead items such as fleet, uniforms, tools, and safety equipment.
- Risk mitigation for service agreements, service projects, and repair work.
- Oversee the service coordination function to respond efficiently to customers, ensure technicians’ training and skill levels are appropriately balanced, and leverage resources across the district. This includes emergency repair, regular maintenance contracts, scheduled work, upgrades, installations, replacement components, and long-term service agreements.
- Attract, coach, counsel, train, and develop all service employees. Drive continuous improvement through company performance management processes and technical product training programs. Develop employee skill levels, including customer service, process, and technical skills.
- Confirm margin expectations are met during sales and fulfillment activities.
- Maximize cash flow by ensuring invoices are generated immediately upon completion of work, managing expense budgets, and increasing utilization of the service team.
- Ensure standard service work processes are created and followed.
- Improve transactional processes impacting the customer experience and increase overall customer satisfaction.
- Ensure environmental, health, and safety compliance within the service team. Provide training to all employees to ensure a safe and productive work environment both in the shop and at customer sites.
- Travel to customer job sites is required, which may include outdoor work and/or work in mechanical/equipment rooms. Exposure to variable weather conditions, moving mechanical parts, heights, and other variable environmental conditions based on location may occur.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in HVAC or a related field, technical systems (or equipment or skilled trades).
- 3+ years of experience managing and coaching large teams and organizing work schedules.
- Project management skills to oversee and drive successful project execution for startups and customer requests.
- Tech-savvy with expertise in Microsoft applications. Salesforce experience is considered an asset.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license for a minimum of 12 months, with no major or frequent traffic violations (e.g., DUI, hit & run, license suspension, reckless/careless driving, or multiple smaller infractions/preventable collisions in the previous 3 years).
Pay
Annual Base Salary Range: $117,673.33 - $164,675.00 (salary). This role is incentive eligible but not sales commission eligible.
