About the Role
The Area Operations Manager oversees operations in an assigned geographic area comprising multiple Center locations and/or field program delivery sites. This role manages the delivery of programs and services, interfaces with external parties to increase program awareness, engages in development activities, and leads Area Operations Specialists, staff, and volunteers.
Responsibilities
- Manage operational procedures for one or more Centers, ensuring cost-effective, safe, welcoming, clean, and well-maintained facilities compliant with USO policies.
- Oversee and evaluate area-wide programs, services, activities, and events. Conduct periodic reviews of USO program needs and recommend new initiatives based on findings.
- Coordinate with Area and Center leadership to ensure adequate volunteers and supplies for all programs, events, and activities.
- Develop area-wide fundraising and public awareness plans, leading special fundraising and development events.
- Build and maintain relationships with U.S. Military, local business, and community leaders to support procurement and resource growth.
- Design and execute multi-channel promotions and campaigns to enhance awareness of USO programs, events, and activities. Manage center website and social media content in compliance with USO standards.
- Monitor and manage financial activities for the assigned region, including budget execution, income recording, banking, and resource procurement.
- Prepare, review, and present financial, operations, and statistical reports. Maintain accurate accounting of furniture, fixtures, and equipment.
- Lead, manage, and mentor Area operations staff. Recruit, supervise, train, and recognize staff and volunteers.
- May be required to operate a USO or personal motor vehicle.
- Perform other duties as assigned, including backfilling for other leaders or positions.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
- 5+ years of work experience in programs, events, marketing, business operations, or a related role, including 1+ years in a supervisory capacity.
- Relevant experience in a non-profit, military, multicultural, and/or global organization preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to lead high-performing teams and work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interact professionally with USO Leadership, the public, and military audiences.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment on culturally sensitive or controversial subjects and handle confidential information with tact.
- Working knowledge of basic business and accounting functions, including project management and budgeting.
- Proficiency in computers and electronics, including Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software.
- Ability to obtain and maintain credentials for USO Center access, including security, credit, and/or background screening, SOFA status, and a valid driver’s license.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a valid U.S. passport and foreign driver’s license (in applicable locations).
- Must be a strong advocate of the USO’s mission.
