Area Director Surgical Services
Full-time, benefits-eligible position with 40 hours per week. Schedule includes Monday through Friday day shifts, with 24/7 operational responsibility for Alleghany Memorial Hospital, Hugh Chatham Medical Center, and Wilkes Medical Center.
Pay range: $68.20 - $102.30 per hour.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing required.
- Master's degree in Nursing, Health Care Management, or Business Administration required.
- Doctorate in Nursing (DNP/PhD) preferred; DNP preferred over PhD.
- Five years of experience in relevant nursing areas with management or supervisory experience in an academic medical center or tertiary hospital setting required.
- Current RN license in good standing in the applicable state.
- Certification in administration or clinical specialty within one year of hire.
Responsibilities
- Exemplify Wake Forest Baptist Health (WFBH) Values and Code of Conduct; identify compliance risks and report violations to Legal Services and Corporate Compliance Departments.
- Ensure immediate action on compliance issues, policy development/revision, and a positive, compliant work environment.
- Demonstrate leadership in clinical competence, nursing practice standards, human resources, financial management, planning, directing, continuous quality improvement, institutional support, and customer service.
- Provide leadership in human resource development and management, including recruitment, retention, and mentorship of staff.
- Accountable for planning, development, and implementation of operational and capital budgets; identify areas of need and make recommendations.
- Collaborate with System CNE, entity CNO, and Medical Directors to create long-range strategic plans and goals.
- Participate in organization-wide performance improvement activities and prepare presentations for the Board of Trustees and Medical Executive Committees.
- Oversee planning and development of clinical programs, standards, quality assurance, research, and educational activities.
- Provide direction and oversight for designated departments, units, programs, procedural areas, and outpatient clinics.
- Facilitate development of policies and procedures affecting clinical practice in collaboration with medical and administrative colleagues.
- Promote Professional Governance participation and drive continuous quality improvement.
- Maintain compliance with hospital, regulatory, and Joint Commission guidelines.
- Build and maintain collaborative partnerships within and outside the institution.
- Partner with Finance and other groups to ensure smooth delivery of key deliverables.
- Participate in planning and evaluating efforts to improve patient satisfaction and perception of care.
- Manage resources, environment, and clinical practice of nursing; ensure organizational commitment and ethical behavior.
- Work closely with direct reports and nursing staff to ensure sufficient resources for high-quality, cost-effective patient care.
- Respond to staffing needs, including supervision, interviewing, and selection of new staff.
- Coordinate operational planning, systems assessment, program development, and information management across the WFBH system.
