About the role
The Area Accountant plays a crucial role in the accounting department, performing a variety of duties to ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance with company policies.
Responsibilities
- Compiles and analyzes financial information to prepare journal entries and document business transactions.
- Prepares monthly and quarterly operational performance reports.
- Aids the Area Controller in establishing and maintaining proper internal controls, including compliance with company policies and procedures, Sarbanes-Oxley, and other statutory requirements.
- Reconciles balance sheet accounts and statistical data, and fully analyzes financial statements in accordance with GAAP and company policy.
- Assists the Area Controller in managing accounting personnel and providing guidance to different functional areas such as invoice processing, billing, cash receipts, work order processing, credit analysis, receivable collections, month-end close, journal entries, statistical data, and payroll.
- Supports the Area Controller during the annual budget and interim forecasting processes and assists with analytical reviews.
- Supports the accounting aspects of capital expenditures, transfers, and retirements.
- Assists with periodic financial audits including internal audits, external audits, and peer reviews.
- Supports corporate and regional financial management by responding to information requests.
Qualifications
- Accounting experience.
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Intermediate-level MS Excel skills.
- Ability to demonstrate initiative to thoughtfully and fully research and follow up on non-standard situations to ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.
- Effective and professional interpersonal communication across various levels of the organization and with external customers and vendors.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Ability to complete projects and assignments with minimal supervision.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to work in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.
- Experience with general ledger software and other programs consistently used in industry.
- Experience with Oracle accounting software and other programs consistently used in industry.
