Archives Assistant
About the role
The Archives Assistant (Library Services) position at Central Piedmont Community College is responsible for assisting in the preservation of the College’s historical records. Key responsibilities include processing physical and digital archive collections, creating and updating finding aids and reference guides, maintaining computerized databases, performing cataloging of archival collections, migrating documents into digital formats, responding to inquiries, serving as an informational resource, and assisting in marketing and promoting the college archives.
Responsibilities
- Process physical and digital archive collections under the general direction of the archivist
- Create and update finding aids and reference guides
- Maintain computerized databases such as ArchivesSpace and LibGuides
- Perform cataloging of archival collections per archival standards using tools like Google Drive, ArchivesSpace, and ContentDM
- Migrate photographs, audio/visual, and other documents into digital formats
- Respond to inquiries and requests via phone and e-mail
- Serve as an informational resource to employees, students, and the public
- Assist in activities related to marketing and promoting the college archives
- Assist in instructional research classes for patrons
- Monitor inventory of supplies and other materials needed to operate
Requirements
Minimum qualifications include an Associate Degree, intermediate Microsoft Office skills, and two years of work experience in a library or archive setting. Preferred qualifications include a Bachelor’s Degree in Library Science, History, or a related field, and experience working in an academic library setting.

- Operating personal computers and software, especially MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access, and Adobe Photoshop

- Using library and archives related software, such as LibGuides, ArchivesSpace, and ContentDM
- Proficiency with web design, web authoring tools, and markup languages, especially HTML/XHTML and XML
