About the role
The position involves planning, organizing, developing, promoting, implementing, supervising, and evaluating a variety of programs and services for adults 55+.
Responsibilities
- Recruits, trains, and supervises part-time staff, interns, and volunteers.
- Develops, organizes, schedules, implements, supervises, and evaluates program activities including classes, van and outdoor program trips, special events, and services.
- Sets priorities based on needs of older adults in the community.
- Works as a liaison to community agencies and organizations on behalf of Campbell Center.
- Promotes the center and effectively markets programs and services through various avenues including speaking engagements, media contacts, and special contacts and promotions.
- Assists with planning and coordination of fund-raising activities; writes and helps manage grants.
- Helps develop and monitor program budget and activity reports; maintains accurate records and generates reports involving expenditures and a variety of other program information.
- Ensures departmental implementation of, and adherence to, the City's Affirmative Action and diversity Work Plans; facilitates staff development on such issues as diversity and creating a respectful working environment.
- Works cooperatively with members of the department, City, public/private agencies, schools, and community groups to provide a balanced program.
- Answers questions from the public and patrons regarding programs offered; resolves problems as they arise.
- Maintains program compliance with laws, rules, and regulations.
- Purchases and maintains necessary equipment and supplies.
- Attends and serves on City committees and task teams; participates in department, Division, and team meetings.
- Drives a vehicle or van.
- Performs related work and/or special projects as assigned.
Requirements
- Education: Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major work in Recreation, Gerontology, Counseling, Human Services, Public Administration, or closely related field(s).
- Experience: Two years experience in implementation of recreational, social, and cultural programs and services directly related to senior center services; one year of lead worker experience preferred.
- Licenses/Certifications: Valid Oregon driver’s license, or ability to obtain by date of hire; current First Aid and CPR certifications, or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
Qualifications
- Knowledge: Multi-purpose Senior Center Concepts including principles and practices of developing and implementing senior center programming. Age-related physical, psychological, and social changes; recognition of distinction between normal and abnormal aging. Safety precautions and the ability to identify hazards. National and regional programming trends, current literature, and community resources for program planning and development of services. Recreational, social, and cultural needs of community served. Modern office procedures, methods, and computer equipment. Principles of supervision, training, and performance evaluation.
- Ability: Assess recreational interests and needs of individuals and populations 55+ with physical, mental, emotional, and sensory disabilities. Coordinate, organize, and implement programs and services suited to the needs of seniors. Work as part of a service team to establish and promote goals of the Recreation Division and the City. Learn the operation, policies, and procedures of the department. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Monitor budget within allocation for programs and activities in assigned area. Promote the center and effectively market programs and services. Develop and coordinate public relations, community involvement, and public education programs; network and collaborate with other service agencies in delivery of program services. Work with community organizations, solicit sponsorships, and secure outside donations. Coordinate food-related programs and special events. Utilize modern office procedures and methods, including computer equipment. Effectively organize, prioritize, and carry out responsibilities in a thorough and timely manner. Maintain and develop record-keeping procedures. Plan, implement, and evaluate programs and services for older adults; evaluate and monitor program risks and liability. Respond to the needs of older people with care and sensitivity. Appreciate, respect, and assist older people; encourage them to function at their optimal capacity. Advocate on behalf of the older adult population, as needed. Exercise diplomacy in confronting and resolving conflicts and sensitive issues; respect patrons' autonomy and right to confidentiality.
Skills
- Ability to drive a 15 passenger van and para-transit van.
Benefits
Salary Range: **$20,540-$25,573 / Annually Based on 20 Hours / week
Work Schedule: **Monday-Friday, 12:30- 4:30pm
Additional hours may be required based on operational needs.
Pay
Normal starting salary is the first step shown on the posting. Other placement in the salary range may be considered depending on qualifications and experience.
