Architectural Inspector

Responsibilities

• Conduct daily observations of construction work for compliance with approved contract drawings, specifications, RFIs, Change Orders, and approved submittals and shop drawings.
• Issue Observation Reports noting conditions of non‑compliance, with proper references to detailed drawings and specifications sections.
• Manage a project portfolio of 1 project, average value $10M‑$50M.
• Attend early morning, evening, or after‑hours installations (e.g., concrete pours) requiring owner representation; provide flexible hours for construction observations.
• Provide quality control and inspection expertise in architectural and structural systems.
• Track and follow up on Non‑Compliance Reports (NCRs) on Project Work Space (PWS) or Unifier.
• Prepare inspection reports on PWS and Unifier.
• Maintain and organize on‑site project documentation, including inspection and test reports, RFIs, Architect’s Supplemental Instructions (ASIs), and project change control documents on PWS or Unifier.
• Attend pre‑construction meetings, regular onsite construction meetings, and pre‑outage planning meetings.
• Monitor as‑builts and punch lists; review punch lists for above‑ceiling, open wall, and Substantial Completion inspections, and revisit to confirm completion of deficiencies on PWS.
• Stay current in codes and regulations applicable to design and construction, including International Building Codes, NFPA 101, TDLR, OSHA, ADA, ASHRAE 90.1, SWPPP, and special requirements for building types such as healthcare, research labs, and special campus projects.
• Interface with MDA Sr Inspector and provide support to users, campus operations, architects, engineers, contractors, utilities, and regulatory agencies to assist with resolution of conflicts as directed.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years of project management and construction management experience, or 10 years of experience in the related construction trade, including at least one year of supervisory experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, construction sciences, or another construction‑related field (education may be substituted with additional equivalent experience on a one‑to‑one basis).
• ICC certification by discipline (e.g., plumber, electrical) is suggested.
• Knowledge of architectural details, partition ratings, finishes, and doors.
