About the role

GFT is looking for an Architectural Building Assessor to join our NYC team. The Architectural Building Assessor conducts on-site condition assessments of architectural systems for large Facility Condition Assessment portfolios. The assessments are visual only. This role evaluates the current condition, remaining useful life, and repair needs of existing facilities, including identifying deficiencies and documenting observed conditions. Findings are communicated through detailed field notes, supporting photographs, and completion of data entry or reporting following fieldwork.

Responsibilities

  • Visually assess architectural systems including exterior walls, windows, parapets, roof, soffits, floors, interior walls, ceilings, and on-site elements.
  • Identify deficiencies, performance issues, end-of-life indicators, and operational risks, and document findings clearly with detailed notes and photos.
  • Coordinate with mechanical/electrical assessors to provide a complete building-level assessment narrative.
  • Use GFT-provided devices, GFT SharePoint, and standardized assessment application tools to collect, organize, upload, and manage field findings.
  • Respond to Quality Review comments on post-field data entry and submission to streamline final reporting.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 5 years’ relevant field experience evaluating architectural systems including finishes in buildings of various size and use.
  • Ability to identify typical failure modes and condition indicators for architectural components.
  • Strong documentation skills; ability to communicate technical findings clearly.
  • Willingness and ability to travel throughout the 5 boroughs for field assessments.
  • Proficiency with field technology, including mobile data collection tools, SharePoint-based workflows, and structured reporting platforms.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, deadline-driven field environment with changing project needs and schedules.
  • Ability to remain fully engaged during field assignments, with focused attention on inspections, documentation, and project requirements throughout scheduled field time.
  • Professional licensure as a Registered Architect (RA) or equivalent advanced technical credential/experience. License is not required with adequate experience.

Pay

The pay range for this hourly, as-needed role is $52.00–$58.00 per hour. Compensation is based on assigned, approved hours worked and is dependent upon experience and geographic location. Work is not guaranteed on a full-time basis, and this position is not for full-time hire. There may be potential for this position to transition to full-time employment in the future based on business needs, project workload, and individual performance.
