Essential Functions
- Take responsibility for the safety of the activities and participants; including cleaning and sanitation of all archery equipment.
- Develop age-appropriate lesson plans.
- Share lesson plans with Camp Director.
- Let the Camp Director know when more supplies are needed and put together the order form.
- Help campers improve their archery ability.
- Maintain all activities in a constructive and safe way.
- Handle disciplinary issues in a fair but consistent manner and follow camp disciplinary policy.
- Inform Camp Director of any camper or staff issues or concerns.
- Follow established health and safety standards of the YMCA, ACA, and Dept. of Public Health.
- Actively participate in staff training, meetings, etc.
- Participate in all programs, special events, family nights, family and other events as assigned.
- Helps with all camp activities and participates as a member of the camp staff team.
- Demonstrate/teach the values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility to all campers and staff.
- Follow all camp rules, regulations and policies and enforce them among peers.
- Maintain positive public relations with parents, visitors, and the public always.
- Able to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to assigned activities visually and audibly.
- Capable of responding appropriately to emergencies and situations requiring first aid and/or CPR.
- Submit all required paperwork on time.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Attend all Camp Counselor trainings and orientation
- Actively supports the organization’s DEIB commitments by modeling equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging in daily work.
- Recommend and helps implement strategies and initiatives that advance the organization’s diversity goals.
Qualifications
- USA Archery Level 1 Certification or higher or able to obtain prior to camping season.
- Prior camp staff experience for at least one year.
- At least 18 years old.
- Ability and experience in supervising children.
- Good role model, high integrity, and adaptable.
- Desire and ability to work in a camp setting.
- Ability to understand and follow directions.
- Positive attitude and ability to build a cohesive team.
- Current First Aid and Adult and Child CPR certifications.
- Committing to support and further our equity-centered work as an organization.
- Actively supports all DEIB efforts.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
