Archaeologist/Cultural Resource Management Professional

Kimley-Horn’s Riverside, CA office is seeking an on-site Archaeologist/Cultural Resource Management Professional with 3+ years of experience.

Responsibilities

• Conduct cultural resources records searches, pedestrian surveys, and site eligibility evaluations.
• Prepare site records and contribute to cultural resources technical studies pursuant to applicable state and federal environmental and historic preservation law, such as the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), and/or Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA).
• Support and/or engage in Tribal consultation and public outreach.
• Provide training to entry-level staff, peer groups, clients, etc. and meaningfully engage with partners and clients in a service-oriented manner.
• Travel ~25% annually, with 15% being statewide and the remainder local to Southern CA.

Requirements

• Master’s Degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, Archaeological History or related field.
• Successful completion of an archaeology field school.
• Meet Secretary of Interior (SOI) Professional Qualifications in Archaeology.
• Listed or eligible for listing in the Register of Professional Archaeologists (RPA).
• Meet requirements for various agency Archaeological Resources Protection Act (ARPA) permits.
• Meet requirements for access to confidential archaeological information housed within the California Historical Resources Information System (CHRIS).
• At least 3 years of combined experience conducting cultural resources surveys, site condition assessments, and site eligibility evaluations, as well as preparing and reviewing cultural resources technical studies pursuant to CEQA, NEPA, and/or NHPA.
• At least 1 year of experience working directly with descendent communities (desired).
• At least 1 year of experience working in cultural/historical public education (e.g., design/research for cultural/historical plaques, museum exhibits, trail signage) (desired).
• Experience with environmental planning, land planning, policy planning, and entitlement for land development projects (desired).
• Experience with digital tools such as Smartsheet, ArcGIS Pro (desired).
• Follow safety protocols and work in outdoor field conditions, lift field equipment (e.g., auger, shovels, post-hole digger, shaker screen), and safely operate a 4WD vehicle on rugged, remote roads.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to anticipate needs and effectively support internal and external partners.
• Highly organized, with the ability to manage, support, and track multiple projects and tasks simultaneously.

Pay

$105,000 – $120,000
