About the role

We help our clients navigate complex historical and archaeological compliance landscapes. Our role involves proactive adherence to laws like the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) and ensuring sustainable projects. The ideal candidate is an archeologist or architectural historian with SOI Professional Qualifications Standards (36 CFR 61).

Responsibilities

  • Navigate complex federal, state, and local regulations, and attain necessary permits and clearances
  • Develop necessary NHPA documentation and collaborate with agencies such as the lead federal agency, Native American tribes, state agencies, SHPO, USACE, and USFWS
  • Complete or coordinate fieldwork with Olsson staff or sub-consultants, including archaeological surveys, test excavations, and documenting historic resources
  • Organize public meetings and workshops to gather community input and ensure transparent communication
  • Lead federal agencies' requests for tribal consultation requirements
  • Collaborate with engineers, architects, and urban planners to incorporate historical preservation into projects
  • Oversee projects from start to finish, managing timelines, budgets, and deliverables

Requirements

  • Passion for working collaboratively and empowering others
  • Strong communication skills and practical experience in archaeological or historical research, cultural resource management, or compliance with historic preservation standards
  • Practical experience in project management, ensuring compliance with historical and archaeological regulations
  • Aptitude for clearly communicating findings and producing high-quality written deliverables
  • Self-direction and dependability, with strong follow-through on deadlines and deliverables

Qualifications

  • Graduate degree in archaeology, anthropology, history, architecture, historic preservation, or a closely related field
  • Qualification under the Secretary of the Interior (SOI) Professional Qualification Standards (36 CFR 61) for Archaeologist or Architectural Historian
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to contribute and work well on a team
