Arborist

Essential Functions

• Reviews tree preservation; and plans for new projects.
• Investigates proposed development sites for tree preservation.
• Attends pre-application and pre-construction meetings with contractors, developers, water and sewer representatives and other concerned parties.
• Performs job site inspections for tree protection fencing, landscaping, and related concerns.
• Reviews residential permits for compliance with the County’s tree ordinance.
• Inspects development sites for final approval of certificate of occupancy for compliance with the County’s tree ordinance.
• Reviews and approves permits for removal, replacement and/or on-site relocation of trees.
• Answers questions from developers, engineers, and the general public on various aspects of the County’s tree ordinance.
• Processes customer inquiries and complaints.
• Affords assistance with training and education of staff, developers, design professionals and the public on the County’s Tree Protection Ordinance.
• Represents the Department and testifies in court cases.
• Inspects and confirms certification on tree conditions conducted by private Arborists.
• Makes recommendations on variance applications to the Zoning Board of Appeals.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture, Forestry, Horticulture or related field; two years of experience in forestry, horticulture, civil engineering, or a related field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Specific License or Certification Required

• Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license;
• Must possess and maintain a valid International Society of Arboriculture Certification.
