About the Role

A credit specialist plays a vital role in ensuring the financial stability and sustainability of an organization. They assess and manage credit risk, maintain the company’s creditworthiness, evaluate credit applications, perform credit analysis, and make credit decisions. Credit specialists also monitor and analyze credit data, making recommendations for improvements to the credit risk management process.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare credit paperwork for approval for new and/or existing customer accounts seeking credit increases.
  • Maintain the new customer log with accuracy, logging applications, noting application status, and dates of follow-ups.
  • Manage and send out communication to customer trade references, request missing information, and relay approvals/denials.
  • Escalate to the sales team and/or management for assistance on non-responsive accounts.
  • Maintain professional communication with customers and sales regarding credit application inquiries.
  • Monitor and analyze the credit application process and make recommendations for credit risk improvements.
  • Perform investigations to verify existing customers applying for credit terms with an unfavorable history.
  • Communicate effectively both externally and internally.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 0-2 years of experience in work as a Credit Specialist preferred.
  • Strong customer service skills to provide customer/sales support.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize tasks, and discharge duties with a high degree of accuracy and consistency.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.
  • Excellent listening, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to clearly and professionally express ideas to audiences of varying levels, including coworkers, supervisors, executives, vendors, and attorneys.
  • Professional telephone manner.
  • Ability to diffuse high-tension situations confidently, effectively, and professionally.
  • Ability to work well with others and independently with high levels of production.
  • Collaborative team player who proactively engages others to generate ideas, processes, and solutions for the business.
  • Resourceful individual who seeks and applies feedback.
