About the Role

Under the direction of the Aquatics Director, the Aquatics Instructor is responsible for providing private and group swim instruction to clients, maintaining a safe and effective learning environment, and focusing on the fulfillment of clients' swimming goals. Instructors are also responsible for achieving personal revenue goals and providing excellent customer service and hospitality to members and guests.

Responsibilities

  • Provide private and group swim instruction, offering specific and corrective feedback to each client.
  • Design and deliver effective and rewarding swim sessions and workouts.
  • Conduct swim evaluations to help parents decide on the best program for their child and aid in client retention.
  • Maintain accurate records of clients' progress and follow progression guidelines.
  • Enforce all pool rules, aquatics center, and club policies.
  • Maintain a consistent work schedule and arrive punctually for sessions.
  • Provide excellent communication with parents, members, and staff.
  • Track attendance of client sessions and maintain timely records in required systems.
  • Actively participate in events, programs, meetings, and training, including in-service training.
  • Assist in the maintenance and cleanliness of the aquatics center.
  • Represent the club professionally in image, dress, communication, and follow-through.
  • Promote the company’s safety goals and comply with all policies and procedures.
  • Support corporate objectives and participate in improvement initiatives.
  • Make professional development a priority.
  • Assist with special club projects, events, and promotions.

Lifeguard Duties (if applicable)

  • Supervise swimmers by consistently enforcing rules and regulations.
  • Notify swimmers of improper activities or hazards.
  • Rescue persons in distress or in danger of drowning and provide rescue breathing, CPR, and First Aid.
  • Report accidents, rescues, or problems to the Aquatics Director.
  • Report any equipment in need of repair.
  • Answer inquiries about pool use and aquatics services.
  • Direct suggestions from participants to the Aquatics Director or Club Management.
  • Attend all staff meetings and trainings.
  • Be available to work weekdays, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Maintain punctuality for shifts and rotations.
  • Wear the required uniform, including sunscreen, Rescue Tubes, and First Aid pack.
  • Check the First Aid pack for proper contents at the start of each shift.
  • Help keep the pool deck clean, safe, and organized.
  • Follow all safety procedures and precautions.
  • Provide high-quality customer service, including full attention to the pool and swimmers while on duty.

Requirements

  • Current Lifeguard certification required.
  • WSI certification or equivalent required.
  • Understanding of current best practices in learn-to-swim skills, competitive swim techniques, and childhood development.
  • Experience teaching swim lessons for all ages.
  • Knowledge of sales and marketing principles, including strategy, tactics, and techniques.
  • Ability to anticipate problems and apply deductive reasoning to identify solutions.
  • Strong oral comprehension and expression to communicate effectively.
  • Proficiency in computer records using Word, Excel, and other required software.

Instructor Tiers

  • Master Swim Instructor: Minimum of 60 lessons per month (average of 6 months).
  • Elite Swim Instructor: 4+ years of teaching experience preferred; minimum of 80 lessons per month (average of 6 months).
  • Ultimate Swim Instructor: 6+ years of teaching experience preferred; minimum of 100 lessons per month (average of 6 months).

Working Conditions

  • Work is typically performed outdoors in varying and occasionally extreme (hot) weather conditions.
  • Ability to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as required.
  • Must be flexible, adaptable, and able to adjust to changes in the work environment.
  • Daily public contact, including dealing with unpleasant or angry individuals.
  • Frequently changing environment requiring adaptability.
  • Frequent use of hands to handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Frequent climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
  • Occasional sitting for extended periods and regular walking around the facility.
  • Occasional talking and hearing required.
  • Frequent movement of up to 10 pounds and occasional lifting/moving of up to 50 pounds in emergencies.
  • Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Pay

Estimated base pay range: $18.05 - $21.00 per hour.
