Aquatics Instructor

Under the direction of the Aquatics Director, the Aquatics Instructor provides private and group swim instruction to clients, maintains a safe and effective learning environment, and focuses on fulfilling clients’ swimming goals while achieving personal revenue targets. The role emphasizes exceptional customer service and hospitality to members and guests.

Responsibilities

• Provide private and group swim instruction, offering specific and corrective feedback to each client.
• Design and deliver effective and rewarding swim sessions and workouts.
• Conduct swim evaluations to help parents decide on the best program for their child and improve client retention.
• Maintain accurate records of client progress and follow progression guidelines.
• Enforce all pool rules, aquatics center policies, and club policies.
• Maintain a consistent work schedule and arrive punctually for sessions.
• Communicate effectively with parents, members, and staff.
• Track client session attendance and maintain timely records in required systems.
• Actively participate in events, programs, meetings, and training, including in-service sessions.
• Assist in maintaining the cleanliness of the aquatics center.
• Represent the club professionally through appearance, communication, and follow-through.
• Promote the company’s safety goals and ensure a safe working environment.
• Comply with company policies and procedures.
• Support corporate objectives and participate in improvement initiatives.
• Prioritize professional development and assist with special club projects, events, and promotions.

Lifeguard Duties (if applicable)

• Supervise swimmers by consistently enforcing rules and regulations.
• Rescue individuals in distress or danger of drowning and administer CPR, First Aid, or rescue breathing as needed.
• Notify the Aquatics Director of accidents, rescues, or problems.
• Report equipment in need of repair to the Aquatic Director.
• Answer inquiries about pool use and aquatics services.
• Direct suggestions from participants to the Aquatic Director or Club Management.
• Attend all staff meetings and trainings.
• Be available to work weekdays, weekends, and holidays as needed.
• Arrive on time for shifts and rotations, dressed in uniform with required safety equipment.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized pool deck.
• Follow all safety procedures and precautions.
• Provide high-quality customer service, including full attention to the pool and swimmers while on duty.

Requirements

• Current Lifeguard Certification required.
• WSI certification or equivalent required.
• Understanding of current best practices in learn-to-swim skills, competitive swim techniques, and childhood development.
• Experience teaching swim lessons for all ages.
• Knowledge of sales and marketing principles, including strategy, tactics, and techniques.
• Strong problem anticipation and deductive reasoning skills.
• Excellent oral comprehension and expression to communicate ideas clearly.
• Proficiency in computer systems, including Word, Excel, and other required software.

Instructor Tiers

• Master Swim Instructor: Minimum of 60 lessons per month (average over 6 months).
• Elite Swim Instructor: 4+ years of teaching experience preferred; minimum of 80 lessons per month (average over 6 months).
• Ultimate Swim Instructor: 6+ years of teaching experience preferred; minimum of 100 lessons per month (average over 6 months).

Working Conditions

• Work is typically performed outdoors in varying and occasionally extreme (hot) weather conditions.
• Ability to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as required.
• Must be flexible, adaptable, and able to adjust to a frequently changing environment.
• Daily public contact, including handling unpleasant or angry individuals and problem-solving difficult situations.
• Frequent use of hands to handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms.
• Frequent climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
• Occasional sitting for extended periods and regular walking around the facility.
• Occasional talking and hearing required.
• Frequent movement of up to 10 pounds and occasional lifting/moving of up to 50 pounds in emergencies.
• Specific vision abilities required, including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Pay

Estimated base pay range: $18.47 - $33.00 per hour.
