About the role

The Assistant Aquatic Manager position is responsible for training and leading lifeguards, overseeing the operation of aquatic facilities, and ensuring the safety of all individuals using the facilities. Key responsibilities include managing lifeguard programs, conducting water safety and first aid classes, maintaining and monitoring pool filtration and chemical systems, cleaning facilities, operating equipment, and generating reports.

Responsibilities

  • Train and lead lifeguards
  • Oversee the operation of aquatic facilities including pools and waterfront lakes
  • Ensure the safety of all individuals using the aquatic venues
  • Instruct water safety and first aid classes
  • Maintain and monitor pool filtration and chemical feed systems
  • Clean facilities, operate equipment, and perform minor repairs
  • Generate reports and maintain facility records as assigned
  • Occasionally assist at various aquatic facilities as directed

Requirements

Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent, with three (3) years of experience in facilitating a recreational program. Alternatively, an associate's degree in Physical Education, Recreational Sports, or a related discipline, combined with one (1) year of experience, is acceptable. A bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Recreational Sports, or a related discipline, along with relevant experience, is also considered.

All applicants must possess and/or complete American Red Cross First Aid Certification and American Red Cross Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification at the time of hire.

Qualifications

Preference will be given to Anchorage Municipal Employees Association (AMEA) members. AMEA employees who meet the minimum qualifications will be considered before non-AMEA applicants.

Skills

Strong leadership skills, excellent communication abilities, and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously are essential. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and a strong commitment to safety and customer service are also required.

Pay

Salary range is determined by the Municipality of Anchorage's pay scale and is commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Schedule

Position hours vary from Monday through Sunday between 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., with the possibility of remote work schedules after successful completion of probation.
