Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Aquatics Director or designee, the Aquatics Coordinator ensures all participants are provided with activities promoting their social, cultural, educational, physical, and leadership potential. The Aquatics Coordinator upholds the Old Colony Y's Mission, displays and encourages character traits of caring, responsibility, honesty, and respect, and regulates agency standards.

Program Responsibilities

  • Teach swim classes as needed and Lifeguard as needed
  • Interview, hire, train, supervise, discipline, and evaluate all swim instructors
  • Ensure staff informs class and pool procedures and enforces posted rules
  • Supervise aquatic events and encourage participation
  • Review swim instructors' time cards for accuracy
  • Schedule pool offerings and manage volume control
  • Oversee student evaluations for swimming levels
  • Maintain and oversee student attendance and progress records
  • Provide in-services and instructor meetings between program sessions
  • Report incidents/accidents on proper forms
  • Coordinate and facilitate camp swim lessons and open swim schedules
  • Implement at least 2 new programs annually
  • Coordinate incentive programs alongside head guard

Supervision of Personnel

  • Responsible for hiring, training, and evaluating all swim instructors
  • Recruit, train, and lead volunteers
  • Wear staff uniform at all times (on duty)
  • Assign and post instructor schedules for adequate coverage
  • Ensure all certifications and in-service training requirements are up-to-date

Fiscal Responsibilities

  • Adhere to fiscal policies and procedures such as petty cash, program registration, purchase orders, and employee expenses
  • Keep accurate attendance and class records, verifying with membership service before adding new names to rosters
  • Participate in the annual Strong Kids Campaign by organizing at least one fundraising event in the aquatic department
  • Aid in developing the annual budget as it pertains to aquatics
  • Manage the swim class portion of the aquatics budget, meeting or exceeding budgeted numbers

Facility Responsibilities

  • Test water for chemical balance and record at assigned times (inform building supervisor of chemical level problems)
  • Check and report any problems with safety equipment and pool equipment
  • Ensure proper cleanliness of pool areas, including staff office and storage closet
  • Order and maintain resale merchandise inventory
  • Open and close pool as scheduled, ensuring security and safety

Interdivisional Responsibilities

  • Attend Aquatic Leadership meetings
  • Attend all required annual staff meetings
  • Assist in conducting and coordinating annual swim instructor trainings
