Job Summary
The Apprentice Rental Technician is responsible for preparing the rental fleet according to Western States' client care standards in order to meet or exceed the client's needs. Responsibilities include but are not limited to checking construction and support equipment in and out of inventory, loading and unloading rental fleet, moving and organizing equipment throughout the yard, and is responsible for the washing, detailing, and maintaining rental fleet in an effort to maintain optimum availability.
Essential Functions
- Safety: Actively cares, promotes, and manages safety at Western States. Completes Job Hazard Analysis (JHA’s) before any job-related tasks. Maintains clean/clutter-free personal work areas. Adheres to required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Maintenance and Repair: Identifies operational issues on construction and support equipment. Performs basic preventive maintenance and lubrication. Safely performs machine condition inspections and general fleet maintenance. Performs minor machine repair, as needed.
- Fleet and Yard Maintenance: Checks equipment in and out of inventory. Loads, unloads, and secures rental fleet according to load securement standards. Delivers equipment with appropriate trailer size/capacity, as needed, according to WSECO's driving policy. Washes, details, and maintains rental fleet while optimizing yard organization. Performs other duties as assigned.
Continued Development
- Participates in continued education and training initiatives as outlined in the Western States Equipment Technician Career Development Plan (TCDP).
- Learns how to utilize service manuals (Service Information System and parts books) to address technical issues and perform all required tasks within technician level abilities, in accordance to WSECO's printed procedures.
- Develops skill sets to address all inquiries in a prompt and friendly manner in an effort to meet or exceed internal/external client expectations.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- Basic computer/typing skills and ability to learn Microsoft products.
- Experience with basic hand tools.
- Ability to obtain job related certifications for any specialty equipment including but not limited to forklifts, rigging, and overhead cranes.
- Developing knowledge of Service Information Systems and division specific applications.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with others.
- Consistent attendance with the ability to work overtime and travel, as needed.
- Working within and promoting Western States' purpose, vision and values.
Education and Experience
- Proof of high school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required.
- One-year practical industry experience preferred (i.e. Rental fleet, Mobile, and Allied equipment).
Physical Characteristics
- Ability to stand for long periods of time along with walking, sitting, repetitively climbing stairs, reaching (including but not limited to above-shoulder reaching), repetitive bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, leaning and twisting.
- Ability to generate 97 ft./lbs. of force, by pushing and pulling.
- Ability to repeatedly lift up to 60lbs from the ground and place on a shelf/platform set up to 65 inches off the ground.
- Ability to carry up to 20 lbs. while repeatedly ascending/descending a minimum of ten, 8” stair steps.
- Ability to repeatedly ascend/descend a minimum of 10 rungs on various ladders.
- Ability to assemble/disassemble various sizes of nuts and bolts, while repeatedly bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling, and/or crouching.
- Exposure to extreme temperatures and environment.
- Must be able to meet all safety requirements for applicable safety policies.
