Appraiser I - Bisbee *Underfill as an Appraiser Aide may be considered*

Classified position subject to the provisions of the Merit System Rules pursuant to Arizona Law. Applications will be reviewed upon receipt and the position will remain open until filled.

Pay

$19.23 to $28.84 hourly for Appraiser I, dependent upon qualifications. Underfill rate of $16.82 to $23.07 hourly for Appraiser Aide, dependent upon qualifications. Comprehensive benefits package includes membership in the Arizona State Retirement System.

About the role

Under general supervision (Appraiser I) or direct supervision (Appraiser Aide), performs technical work in gathering property appraisal information and establishing property valuation for ad valorem taxation.

Responsibilities

• Physically locate and identify taxable property.
• Establish value of real and personal property for ad valorem taxation.
• Collect data on real and personal property.
• Respond to petitions for review and prepare data for presentation in the administrative appeal process.
• Communicate with the public on property values, ownership, legal description, property tax exemptions, and statutory classification.
• Assist in the training of entry-level appraisers (Appraiser I only).

Requirements

Appraiser I

• Level I State of Arizona Appraiser Certification from the Department of Revenue as per ARS 42-13006.
• One (1) year of general experience relating to residential and light commercial property appraisal.
• Valid Arizona driver’s license and ability to be covered by county insurance.

An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered.

Appraiser Aide

• Must obtain Level I State of Arizona certification within one (1) year of employment as per ARS 42-123.02.
• Valid Arizona driver’s license and ability to be covered by county insurance.

Skills

Appraiser I

• Working knowledge of map reading, property legal descriptions, principles, practices, and techniques used in property assessment, and guidelines/statutes affecting property assessment.
• Working skill in preparing sketches and diagrams of assessed buildings and making arithmetical computations.
• Ability to analyze and interpret factors affecting property values, meet and deal tactfully with the public, read/write/speak English, prepare reports, and follow written/verbal instructions.

Appraiser Aide

• Working knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques used in property assessment, and guidelines/statutes affecting property assessment.
• Working skill in preparing sketches and diagrams of assessed buildings and making arithmetical computations.
• Ability to analyze and interpret factors affecting property values, meet and deal tactfully with the public, establish/maintain effective working relationships, follow written/verbal instructions, and communicate effectively in English verbally and in writing.

Work Environment

• Primarily performed under general supervision (Appraiser I) or direct supervision (Appraiser Aide).
• Work is conducted in a typical office setting or in the field with exposure to various climatic conditions.
• Requires driving and travel within the county.

Physical Demands

• Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently; lifting or carrying objects weighing up to 10 pounds; involves walking, standing, or sitting.
• Requires manual dexterity, large motor skills, and ability to communicate.
• Mental application: Utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability, critical thinking, adaptability, and creative problem-solving skills.
