About the role

The AI Foundations team at Capital One is central to bringing our vision for AI to life. We work across the entire research lifecycle, from academic partnerships to production systems. We collaborate with product, technology, and business leaders to apply the latest in AI to our business needs.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with a cross-functional team to develop AI-powered products that enhance customer interactions.
  • Leverage a diverse stack of technologies, including PyTorch, AWS UltraClusters, Huggingface, Lightning, and Vector Databases, to analyze and interpret complex data.
  • Create and refine AI foundation models throughout the development process, from initial design to deployment.
  • Engage in cutting-edge research to advance AI capabilities and implement them into customer-facing products.
  • Communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders to align on business goals and objectives.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing or recently obtained a PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, AI, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • Experience in applied research or a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, AI, Mathematics, or a related field, combined with 4 years of relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of open-source languages and experience with cloud computing platforms like AWS.
  • Experience in training optimization, self-supervised learning, robustness, explainability, and reinforcement learning with human feedback (RLHF).
  • Understanding of deep learning algorithmic and optimizer design, including model sparsification, quantization, and training parallelism.
  • Experience with compiler design, fine-tuning, and transfer learning.
  • At least 5 years of experience in NLP research or equivalent.
  • Multiple publications on deep learning theory, optimization, and transfer learning.
  • Experience with large-scale model training and deployment.

Qualifications

  • Basic qualifications include a strong educational background in computer science or related fields.
  • Preferred qualifications include a PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related field, with a focus on NLP or extensive industrial NLP research experience.
  • Experience with large language models, model compression, and transfer learning.
  • Track record of publishing in top-tier conferences and journals like ACL, NAACL, EMNLP, NeurIPS, ICML, and ICLR.
  • Experience with model sparsification, quantization, and training optimization.
  • Expertise in model adaptation, fine-tuning, and instruction tuning.

Skills

  • Strong programming skills in Python, R, or similar languages.
  • Experience with deep learning frameworks like PyTorch, TensorFlow, or Huggingface Transformers.
  • Knowledge of natural language processing (NLP) and computer vision (CV).
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Pay

Salaries for this role range from $262,500 to $326,800 annually, depending on location and experience.

Schedule

This role is full-time and permanent.
