About the role

The AI Foundations team at Capital One is central to realizing our vision of AI at Capital One. We collaborate across various disciplines to develop and deploy AI-powered products that enhance customer interactions. Our work spans from academic partnerships to the creation of production systems, always aiming to push the boundaries of what's possible.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with a cross-functional team to deliver AI-powered products that transform customer experiences.
  • Leverage a diverse set of technologies including PyTorch, AWS UltraClusters, Huggingface, Lightning, and Vector Databases to analyze and interpret complex data.
  • Build and refine AI foundation models through all stages of development, ensuring they meet high standards of accuracy and performance.
  • Engage in cutting-edge research to advance AI applications and ensure they align with business goals.
  • Communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders to drive adoption and innovation.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing or recently obtained a PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, AI, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • Experience in Applied Research or a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, AI, Mathematics, or a related field combined with 4 years of experience in Applied Research.
  • Knowledge of open-source languages and hands-on experience with deep learning model development.
  • A strong understanding of AI methodologies and foundational algorithms.
  • Experience with large-scale deep learning model training and deployment.
  • Track record of publishing in top-tier conferences like ACL, NAACL, EMNLP, NeurIPS, ICML, and ICLR.
  • Experience in areas such as model sparsification, quantization, and training optimization.
  • Expertise in transfer learning, model adaptation, and guided learning.
  • Ability to lead and manage complex research projects independently.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in Applied Research or a Master's degree in related fields.
  • Strong publication record in AI and machine learning research.
  • Experience with large-scale language model training and deployment.
  • Knowledge of advanced optimization techniques for deep learning models.
  • Experience with compiler design and deep learning algorithmic design.
  • Experience with model compression and fine-tuning techniques.
  • Proven ability to lead and mentor a team of researchers.

Skills

  • Strong programming skills in Python, R, or equivalent.
  • Experience with distributed computing frameworks like PyTorch, TensorFlow, or Apache Spark.
  • Understanding of natural language processing (NLP) and its applications.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to convey technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Pay

Salaries for this role vary by location, ranging from $262,500 to $326,800 annually for Applied Researcher II positions in Cambridge, MA, McLean, VA, New York, NY, San Francisco, CA, and San Jose, CA. Actual salaries may vary based on individual qualifications and performance.

Schedule

This role is full-time and requires regular attendance and availability to meet project deadlines and client needs.
