Summary
Under direct supervision of the Bender Area Installation Supervisor, the Applications Technician is responsible for assisting in the development of customer applications, mounting and verification of tooling, performing acceptance testing, providing customer support on new/existing applications, assisting in machine configuration suggestions, providing customer training. The Applications Technician will also support the Solution Center team in providing customer demonstrations, when needed. Lastly, assist in taking a customer’s concept to reality, while providing unparalleled customer service.
Essential Functions
- Aid in the development and validation of customer parts, including the creation and optimization of part programs.
- Install, set-up, and program machines & tooling required to perform the customer applications.
- Perform machine installations at the customer sites.
- Provide support to customers both during and after the sales process.
- Solve minor technical issues found during the commissioning, tooling validation, acceptance, and/or installation processes.
- Learn how to analyze customer drawings to determine the feasibility of an application utilizing BLM’s product offerings.
- Collaborate with Pre-Sales Applications and Sales team to suggest features, accessories, and/or software products to aid the customer in their application.
- Learn how to conduct customer run-off acceptance tests at the Novi, MI location and eventually conduct these independently.
- Install and remove machine components as required, according to the BLM GROUP USA sales order.
- Conduct customer training on the proper use and function of the Tube & Wire Forming Products.
- Work to learn the internal procedures of BLM GROUP USA to assist in performing the required job functions to successfully complete Tube & Wire Forming Products projects.
- Maintain a positive rapport and business relationship with internal and external customers by providing outstanding customer service.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment.
- Ability to travel 75-100% as required by management.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or relevant coursework in manufacturing/design/engineering or a related field is a plus.
- 2+ years of experience in Tube Bending, Wire Bending, and/or End Forming processes.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on experience with mechanical systems.
- Strong electrical aptitude and hands-on experience with electrical systems.
- Experience with 2D/3D design software is a plus (ex. SolidWorks, SolidEdge, AutoCAD).
- Experience with or understanding of GD&T is a plus.
- Licensing/Certifications: A clear driving record containing no more than two (2) minor moving violations in three (3) years and no major violations in the last seven (7) years.

- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and manuals.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Basic to intermediate understanding of bending tool designs and how they apply to specific machine and part applications is a plus.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
- Able to effectively use the Internet.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be able to work effectively with minimal supervision.
- Must have excellent time management skills.
- Able to effectively work with all levels of team members and all types of customer personalities.
- Fluent in Italian and/or Spanish preferred, but not necessary.
Equipment, Machinery, Tools, and Vehicles Used
- General office equipment, including computers, printers, fax machines and telephones.
- Basic hand and electrical diagnostic tools.
- CNC machining equipment.
Physical Demands

- The incumbent works primarily in a manufacturing facility where the noise level could be moderate to loud.
- Occasionally will perform work in an office environment.
- The position requires approximately 75-100% travel.
- Technicians must be available to travel both domestically and internationally as required by management.
