Accountabilities
- Provide technical expertise throughout the pre-order and design process, supporting internal teams and customers with engineering solutions for electrical distribution systems.
- Provide pre-order engineering support, including preliminary drawings, communication diagrams, sequences of operation, and bills of materials.
- Review customer plans, technical specifications, and scopes of work to ensure alignment with available products and engineering requirements.
- Collaborate with design engineering, mechanical engineering, and production teams to develop customized solutions for unique applications.
- Support product development initiatives by providing technical recommendations for new products and enhancements.
- Build and maintain libraries of standard design details, tools, and CAD resources to improve application efficiency.
- Provide technical consultation and guidance to sales and engineering teams throughout project lifecycles.
- Deliver product and application training to internal teams and customers.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable industry standards, including NEC, UL, and IEEE requirements.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on engineering processes, documentation, and solution development.
Requirements
- The ideal candidate is an electrical engineering professional with experience in power distribution products, switchgear design, and application-focused engineering.
- They should have strong technical knowledge, communication skills, and the ability to work independently while collaborating across multidisciplinary teams.
- A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or equivalent technical experience is required.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in applications engineering, design engineering, field service engineering, or related power industry roles is preferred.
- Experience designing or supporting power products, including switchgear, switchboards, panelboards, or similar electrical distribution systems is necessary.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and the ability to interpret mechanical assembly drawings is required.
- A strong understanding of three-phase electrical power systems, including distribution, protection strategies, control systems, and rotating machinery is essential.
- Experience with PLC and HMI programming, power studies, and protection coordination is preferred.
- A familiarity with communication hardware and protocols, including Ethernet networking, Modbus, and IEC 61850 is beneficial.
- A knowledge of electrical standards and codes such as UL 891, UL 1558, UL 508A, IEEE C37.20, and the National Electrical Code is important.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical evaluation skills are required.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities with the confidence to collaborate with customers and internal stakeholders are necessary.
- An ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and contribute effectively within a team environment is expected.
