Application Development Project Manager

About the role

Our client is seeking an experienced Application Development Project Manager to lead the planning and delivery of complex software-development initiatives. This individual will coordinate cross-functional teams throughout the full software development lifecycle, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within scope, and in alignment with business and technical objectives.

Responsibilities

• Manage application-development projects from initiation through production implementation and post-launch support.
• Define project scope, objectives, deliverables, milestones, resource requirements, and success criteria.
• Develop and maintain project plans, schedules, dashboards, budgets, RAID logs, status reports, and executive-level presentations.
• Use Smartsheet to manage project schedules, resource plans, dependencies, risks, reporting, and portfolio-level visibility.
• Coordinate activities across software engineering, product management, business analysis, quality assurance, architecture, infrastructure, cybersecurity, and production-support teams.
• Facilitate Agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, daily standups, backlog refinement, demonstrations, and retrospectives.
• Track project progress, dependencies, risks, issues, and decisions, escalating concerns when necessary.
• Partner with product owners and business stakeholders to prioritize requirements and maintain a clearly defined delivery roadmap.
• Ensure business and technical requirements are documented, reviewed, approved, and traceable throughout the project lifecycle.
• Manage releases across development, testing, staging, and production environments.
• Coordinate testing activities, defect resolution, change management, implementation planning, and production-readiness reviews.
• Monitor project financials, resource capacity, vendor performance, and overall delivery health.
• Manage third-party vendors and geographically distributed development teams when applicable.
• Communicate project status, risks, decisions, and tradeoffs to technical teams, business stakeholders, and senior leadership.
• Promote adherence to the client's software-development, security, compliance, change-management, and governance standards.
• Identify opportunities to improve delivery processes, team collaboration, reporting, and project outcomes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• Five or more years of project-management experience, including at least three years managing application-development or software-engineering projects.
• Demonstrated experience delivering complex enterprise applications through the full software development lifecycle.
• Hands-on experience using Smartsheet for project planning, schedule management, dashboards, reporting, resource tracking, and stakeholder communication.
• Strong knowledge of Agile, Scrum, Waterfall, and hybrid project-delivery methodologies.
• Experience managing multiple workstreams, technical dependencies, risks, budgets, and competing priorities.
• Experience working with product owners, software developers, architects, QA engineers, DevOps teams, and business stakeholders.
• Proficiency with Smartsheet.
• Strong written and verbal communication, facilitation, negotiation, and stakeholder-management skills.
• Ability to translate technical information into clear, business-focused updates for senior leadership.
• Strong organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.

Pay

$75-80/hour

Schedule

Onsite 3 days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) in Roseland, NJ.

Contract length: 6 months, possibility for extension.
