About the role
The PVF FLEET Department of the P FLEET SERVICES Division is establishing an External Applicant Pool for qualified candidates to be considered for an Automotive Mechanic vacancy on the island of Oahu. Applicants must successfully pass an aptitude and skills assessment, tentatively scheduled during the week of September 21, 2026. Confirmed dates and times will be provided closer to the testing date.
Internal employees should apply through internal job requisitions when vacancies become available.
Responsibilities
- Performs all types of vehicle, equipment, engine, and tool maintenance, repair, and modification work, including gas welding and work on hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems and devices.
- Completes necessary job tags and paperwork related to the work performed.
- Drives Company vehicles.
- Directs the work of personnel in lower classifications on the above operations.
- Performs similar and incidental duties as required.
- Assumes an emergency management role, as assigned, performing specific functions during emergencies (excluding routine trouble calls/callouts).
Requirements
- Ability to identify and distinguish between colors, including shades, hues, and tints.
- Must be able to obtain a Medical Examiner’s Certificate.
- Must have or be able to qualify for a State of Hawaii Commercial Driver’s License.
- Must meet the standards for driving positions stated in the Hiring Standards for Driving Positions policy.
- Must be able to lift and carry automotive parts, tools, and/or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Must pass the Edison Electric Institute Construction & Skilled Trades Selection System (CAST). Note: Employees who have passed the Differential Aptitude Test (DAT) are exempt.
- Graduate of an Automotive Apprentice Program or equivalent training and experience.
- Must pass the Company Written Job Knowledge Test and Job Proficiency Test. Note: Graduates of the Company Automotive Apprentice Program are exempt from the Job Proficiency Test.
- Must have or be able to qualify for C&C and DOT Safety Check Inspection Certification within 24 months.
- Must have or be able to acquire Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification within 24 months in the following areas:
- Diesel engines
- Automatic transmission/transaxle
- Suspension & steering
- Brakes
- Electrical/electronic systems
- Engine performance
- Must pass the Company Hydraulic Written Job Knowledge Test within 24 months.
Schedule
- Work Schedule: Monday–Friday
- Work Hours: FLEET 56DAY FOREMAN WK1 (FLW1) – 4 weeks at 6:30 AM–3:00 PM and 4 weeks at 3:00 PM–11:30 PM
- Location: Honolulu – Oahu
Pay
$49.44 per hour
