Appellate Writ Attorney - Division Six
Overview
The California Court of Appeal, Second Appellate District, Division Six, located in downtown Ventura, is seeking a Writ Attorney. The court values diversity and inclusion in its workplace. The Writ Attorney will review civil and criminal writ petitions and pre-chamber assignment motions under the guidance of the four justices and the current Writ Attorney.
Qualifications
- Appellate court experience or significant writing experience in appellate practice or trial litigation
- Strong research, analytical, and writing abilities
- Familiarity with appellate practice
- Sound judgment
- Attention to detail
- Excellent time-management skills
- Able to work independently or as part of a team
- Strict adherence to ethics and confidentiality
- Proficiency with computerized legal research, word processing, and relevant software applications
Minimum Qualifications
- Level C: Active membership in the State Bar of California and 3 years of post-bar legal experience in a legal setting such as a private law practice, corporation, government agency, law school, court, or legal publishing company. OR 1 year of experience as an appellate attorney, Level B, with the judicial branch.
- Level D: Active membership in the State Bar of California and 4 years of post-bar legal experience in a legal setting such as a private law practice, corporation, government agency, law school, court, or legal publishing company. OR 1 year of experience as an appellate attorney, Level C, with the judicial branch.

Pay and Benefits
- Level C: $9,158 to $11,640 per month (Starting salary will be between $9,158 to $10,074 per month)
- Level D: $10,541 to $14,069 per month (Starting salary will vary between $10,541 to $11,595 per month)
Salary is based on qualifications and experience. Due to statewide fiscal conditions, the posted salary range is subject to a temporary 3% reduction. Employees accrue an additional 5 hours of paid personal leave per month through June 30, 2027.
