APP Lead - Neurosurgery ICU

Job Duties

• Holds monthly meetings with APPs using BPC Meeting template and sends to team.
• Attends 80% of APP Manager meetings held by APP BPC (second Monday of the month, 4:30-5:15pm on Teams).
• Attends department faculty/staff meetings and cascades information to APP team.
• Manages schedule coverage if applicable.
• Conducts APP interviews and records progress in OurDay (if applicable), partners with department leadership and HR for job offer/salary quotes.
• Ensures Transition to Practice document is given to new APP hires.
• Affords assistance with 30/60/90/120 day evaluations with physician and/or department leadership, along with performing 1:1 with APPs on a regular basis.
• Affords assistance with performance evaluations with physician and/or department leadership.
• Collaborates with physician/department leadership to ensure compliance with annual mandates or other compliance-related requirements.
• Coordinates APP student rotations for both internal and external students, coordinates APP fellow rotations if applicable.
• Affords assistance with APRN Practice Agreements and PA Scope of Practice documents to ensure compliance with state boards and MUSC Credentialing.
• Develops and implements any new initiatives involving APPs in conjunction with the APP Best Practice Center.
• Affords assistance in coaching and facilitating the development, support, and management of the APRN/PA group within the department.
• Develops staffing systems which respond effectively and quickly to changes in patient volume, acuity or service demands.

Job Duties - 75%

• Takes comprehensive history and performs physical examinations.
• Evaluates and treats on the basis of history, physical examination, radiological, laboratory, and other diagnostic test results pursuant to the practice agreement or scope of practice guideline.
• Performs the following therapeutic procedures in accordance with procedural privileges, skill and proficiency as approved by the Clinical Division Chief.
• Assists/Performs the following, but NOT limited to:
• Lumbar Puncture
• Central Venous line placement
• Pulmonary Artery Catheterization
• Arterial line placement
• Endotracheal Intubation
• Chest Tube placement
• Bronchoscopy
• Thoracentesis
• Paracentesis
• Performs suturing/stapling, and removal of catheters/ tubes/ drains as needed.
• Initiates referrals to other healthcare providers, and/or consults with the attending physician or the collaborating physician.
• Potential to first assist in the operating room.
• Documents and bills for direct care provided.
• Utilizes current research and evidence-based decision-making in all clinical practice.
• Participates in and supports accreditation, compliance, and regulatory activities of the organization.
• Demonstrates responsibility for professional practice through active participation in professional organizations and continuing education.
• Potential to precept students at MUSC enrolled as an advanced practice provider student; and facilitates the learning of other new team members.

Required Minimum Training And Experience

• Current licensure as a Physician Assistant or currently licensed as an APRN as noted below.
• One year of experience as an APP and/or experience in a managerial or leadership role is required.

Preferred Training And Experience

• At least 1 year of Neurosurgical care as an NP/PA-C and at least two years of experience as an APP is preferred.
• Prior supervision of Advanced Practice Providers, or participation within an Advanced Practice Provider leadership program is also preferred.
