About the role
Bronson Methodist Hospital Kalamazoo, Michigan has an exciting opportunity in southwest Michigan for a goal oriented, energetic Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner.
Responsibilities
- Assists in the delivery of medical care to the patient by reviewing and monitoring treatment and therapy plans in the inpatient and outpatient settings.
- Obtains medical and personal histories, performs physical exams, orders appropriate laboratory, diagnostic and radiographic tests and interprets results.
- Educates patients and families regarding the plan of care.
- Works in conjunction with multidisciplinary team for the management of neurosurgical and neuroendovascular patients.
- Aids surgeon in the operating room on spinal and cranial cases.
- Supports all neurosurgeons and neuroendovascular surgeons on a rotating basis.
Requirements
- Minimum 1 – 2 years’ experience as an APP is preferred but not required.
- Experience in neurosurgery, other surgery specialty, or neurology is preferred.
- Must be able to practice independently with strong clinical decision making; communicate clearly with patients and caregivers and be able to navigate well through the EMR (Epic).
- Able to work both autonomously and in a team environment.
- Graduate of accredited PA/NP program with unrestricted license to practice as a PA/NP in the state of Michigan.
- Able to support surgeons as OR first assist.
Qualifications
- Successful completion of a Physician Assistant program.
- Licensure as Physician Assistant and state DEA license to prescribe medications.
- Current prescriptive authority and collaborative agreement with oversight physician(s) should also be in place.
- Maintain all requirements for medical staff privileges.
Skills
- Ability to utilize word processing, spreadsheet, presentation programs, and other software relevant to the job.
- Regularly communicates clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing (Utilizing SBAR technique).
- Communicates with internal customers such as, physicians, multi-disciplinary team, finance, management and external customers such as, patients, third party payers, community agencies on a daily basis and often simultaneously.
- Work which produces high levels of mental/visual fatigue, e.g., interactive and repetitive or small detailed work requiring alertness and concentration for sustained periods of time, the operation of and full attention to a personal computer or CRT between 40 and 70 percent of the time.
- The job produces some physical demands. Typical of jobs that include regular walking, standing, stooping, bending, sitting, and some lifting of light weight objects.
