App, Backend, or Full Stack Software Developer - Help us build the best app possible!
Our values are grounded in real-world experience, field-based service, and a deep commitment to practical solidarity with the people and communities we serve. They are operational principles we act on every day, informing everything we do as an organization—from how we lead to how we serve.
Trust through Transparency
In every interaction—whether with clients, staff, volunteers or partners—we speak plainly, operate in the open, and follow through on what we commit to. We recognize our mistakes as opportunities to learn and improve and express the humility necessary to foster psychologically safe relationships and to create environments where people feel safe, respected, and informed. We make commitments deliberately without overcommitting and hold ourselves publicly and privately accountable for outcomes without obscuring or deflecting responsibility.
Progress through Partnership
Our impact is rooted in relationships built on mutual respect and shared responsibility. Our partnerships have a clear purpose: strengthen the work already happening in communities and keep client needs at the center. We collaborate with organizations that uphold high ethical standards and reflect the people they serve. Together, we create conditions for meaningful coordination—building shared infrastructure, removing access barriers, and reinforcing local capacity. Trust shapes these efforts. Long-term goals guide them. Day-to-day service realities ground them. By staying close to the work and clear in our commitments, we help build systems that are dependable, collaborative, and built to last.
Change through Community
We engage the broader community as a vital part of our work, recognizing that lasting change depends on connection, trust, and shared investment. By building relationships between housed and unhoused neighbors, we work to reduce hostility and foster mutual understanding. Our role is to create space for dialogue, mediate conflict when it arises, and help communities identify common ground. We approach advocacy as something earned through presence and reciprocity—helping shift attention toward the systems that produce harm. This work is steady and relational, rooted in the belief that communities grow stronger when people act together with care and purpose. Through long-term commitment, we help nurture environments where people are safer, more connected, and more capable of responding to challenges in collective and sustainable ways.
About Anything Helps
Anything Helps is a Washington State 501(c)(3) nonprofit that provides Medicaid-funded case management services to people experiencing homelessness across King, Snohomish, Pierce, and Kitsap counties. Our organization is led by and staffed with people who have experienced homelessness themselves, and we deliver services directly in the field, meeting people where they are both physically and emotionally. We are a close team doing critical work across the Puget Sound, and we need help making sure our support tools enable our staff members.
About the Role
We have contracted to build a Flutter app, with a NodeJS backend, and Firebase Firestore database. The goal of this app is to make it very easy for organizations helping the homeless find homes and jobs by automating most of the red tape. It's also to promote efficiencies in a space that historically has very few.
Specifically, we need help from:
- Front-end developers who know or want to work with Flutter and Dart.
- Backend developers who know or want to work with TypeScript, NodeJS, and Google Cloud Run/Functions.
- Full-stack developers who know or want to work with all of the above, plus Firebase and the Google Cloud Platform.
You do not need to be an expert; even entry-level support would be helpful. If you are a student looking for an internship or have practicum requirements you need to meet, we have an amazing software engineer who is willing to supervise you and sign off on your working hours with us.
Why This Matters
We pride ourselves on paying our staff competitive wages, and every dollar we raise and every volunteer we recruit helps us retain and support the most experienced and knowledgeable case managers in the field as they work directly with people living outside and help them stabilize by securing housing, employment, and treatment. This app is replacing a legacy system that relies on email and the case managers' own data organization. Your skills will directly contribute to our ability to support the people who help the people who need us the most.
